It went over so big at Cam's meet I had to let the rest of you in on it. for those of you who stripe or hand letter, you probably have some kind of paper pallete either small pieces of cardboard or magazines
well I got a 3" metal putty knife that does the job and replaces all those cut up cardboard squares, when you want to change colors simply wipe it clean or flip it over. you can also let it dry and scrape it off later.
and it even has a comfortable handle!

Ken didn't mention the key to the 'trick' - how he holds this putty knife. Gripped with the same hand as his mahl stick, with the wide blade just in front of the notch of his thumb and forefinger, resting on top of the stick. Ken, ya got a picture of that grip??? Very trick indeed.

hahahahahaha,

I had to laugh, not in any disrespect, mind you.
Back in the 70's I learned the scraper pallet method....and....never even thought of it as a "trick of the trade". Just as normal as using a brush and paint.

Sorry, it just struck me funny a standard method gets "re-discovered" and everyone goes nuts over it! Can you imagine the day in the distant future when our kids show up at a Letterhead meet and "discover" you can paint with a brush? hahahahahahaahah

My "trick?" is cat food and tuna fish cans!
Easy to hold, doesn't leak, can be used over and over (just let it dry out)AND having 2 cats, I get a steady supply!
I put a little bit of paint in the can and hold it at a slight angle, so that the paint stays at the edge and use the bottom as a pallate. Don't know how well it will work for a pinhead, but it works for plain lettering brushes and quills!
