After reading some resent posts, we are considering changing Citizen to Resident. It was brought up that the term Citizen is more appropriate for citizens of a Country and that Resident is a better name for those in a small town. If most of you agree, we'll change the title to Resident.
On another note. Letterville Town Planner Dan Sawatzky has come up with a possible solution to the Ore's dilemma. An old time Diner!

The term resident, is not what you think it is. A long time ago our forefathers got us all in trouble by misunderstanding the esence of this term. If you look it up, it means "who you are loyal to" not "where you live". That equates into "how we all got taged for Income taxes " understanding what is going on is the most important issue at hand" Now you can brow beat me Steve !! Roger
The sooner we stop second guessing ourselves the sooner this will all fade from memory. Earlier today I perused the many posts and considered hanging up my mouse as far as this site was concerned. I hate needless controversy. I thought about it for a while and then decided to just ignore it and instead work on the positive aspect of this site and what it all about. The image of the diner came quickly after that. I made it with all my creative energy keeping in mind what could possibly be wrong with it. Notice that all the "customers" have a window seat. No complaining there. Wheel chair ramp too for folks who can't use the stairs. Colors will come later and I suppose the folks will hate whatever shade we decide. In short, I don't care, for I and all the other positive folks are doing the very best we can with the very best of intentions. For those who don't like it, well, ...

Roger, I looked up "Resident" in an American Heritage Dictionary, and it reads: "One who makes a home in a particular place." swear to huda buda, that what it says. Steve, I remember once some guy comes walking up to us and this other guy addresses him as "this is, Joe Letter(name doesn't matter) he's a distinquished citizen of the community" well that was quite a compliment. but it does'nt matter to me, call me anything you want. I don't think it sounds like were from a different country, I think were all distinguished, citizens, vistors, guest, merchants, or residents, hey were all Sign Folks in this cyber space city that you created. I say just leave it alone, the more things you bring out, the more some will say change this, change that, I like this, I don't like that, some do, some won't etc. etc. etc.
But I will say this Hey Dan, Great Renderings! I like both of them, their Dynamite man!
Now which way back to Cisco's Cantina? was it north or east? come on over Steve and the rest of yous, Drinks on the house, Roger is buying

Personally, I like the terms "taxpayer" and "alien." I don't think the terms make that much difference. It could be an asteriks next to a name. I like the idea of those that financially support the site having the priviledge of posting while others get to read, and be encouraged to join in.
Community and Public radio stations have pledge drives. They have businesses underwrite shows, but it remains non-commercial. There are no advertisers dictating the program content with the power of the advertising buck. It's the members that have the vote and say as to what they want to hear and how the government of the station will run.
Perhaps we should look more closely at the model they've developed.
Also, this site has grown to the proportion that requires one or more rather full time managers. There needs to be monetary compensation for this director slot. Also, I hate to say this, but what if something happens to Steve and he can't continue doing this? And Barb needs to move onto the next phase too? How will this site continue? We need to get something established where the director can be exchanged and things can continue. Perhaps Steve needs some assistants? Maybe several of us can each take on some detail of the responsibility of this site? I really appreciate the Shortreed's and how they've elevated my life! This site should grow and continue and develop and change and be here for us.
And now, I'll climb down for this soap box.

Yep Steve, do as you like. You are nice enough to ask our opinions, and look what you get! whiners indeed! Everything you have done is great. Just like when I walk into a room full of people and they ALL want to have a say in how the sign should look. Everytime this happens I cringe. Never fails, you get some person that is WAAAY out there.....and messes it up for everyone. Then everybody starts channging their mind, and you have a problem. I do not like situations like that. I am dealing with one right now, and it is only between 2 women! And now they are back to the original design! Sheesh. I say, just do whatever you feel. There will always be the whiners. They can just go to the cheese factory and have a little cheese with that whine. Nice job Dan!

Steve, Keep up tha' good work, you've got a heck of a hard job. There is no way in this world or any other, that all will agree. That is why we all have opinions, no two people are alike. This makes your job even harder, even those with positive and negitive gripes, can make good points.
We need to try and make this a place where all, can enjoy themselves, and learn from each other. Isn't that why and how this all started? Get back to the basics, of helping all of our brothers and sisters, pinstripers, airbrushers, goldleafers, etc We should stand united, and never divide, Heck people, before you know it,we'll have a revolution on our hands. Lets all keep a smile on our face, and keep a sense of humor about us.
Dan, PLeeeese, KEEP UP YOUR AWESOME WORK, your skills are needed, and most definitely wanted here.I for one would enjoy and pay for a workshop from you and your crew. I stand in awe seeing those structers that you have designed and built. You are a true artist, in what ever feild you focuss on. KEEP IT UP!!!!

Try this one on for size. Seems labels are the sore spot here. Why not eliminate them altogether? This is set up like a town right? In any town people are free to come and go as they like , whether they live there or are just visiting. As it stands now, supporting this site enables the site to continue and provides you with a bunch of goodies. The ability to post is available to everybody. Let Dan design one of those "club type" store like Sam's Club or Costco. The supporters have a membership card that allows entry to the "club" store where they can download their goodies. No labels, nobody is denied anything, the membership is NOBODIES business but the member and the webmaster's. Nobody hears "your not from around here, are ya?"

I think nettie says it best in a different post. Allow me to share a small section of it here...
Quote from nettie...
quote:I think that it's quite obvious that making it known who is a citizen, and who is a visitor does add an incentive for more to invest in this community. Not just about money, but about participation as well, which is just as valuable. The tag line is something I have wanted to see happen here for a long time. I think it is a wonderful way of sending a subtle message out that the option of investing financially towards this site is available. Any pressure you think it would convey is self manufactured, and not a reality on this site.
I agree, it's all self manufactured.

Not trying to be rude, but did you see the post that I originally responded to, that got me into all this in the first place.....???
Apparently not, or you would have seen the statement "If the visitors don't like it..Then they can get the hell out"...or words to that effect!! I wasn't involved in this mess and had no intention of getting involved, until someone had to go make a smart-ass comment that happened to hurt a couple of peoples feelings (not mine) and I decided to stand up for them.......
This is not something manufactured in my mind, and it's not some kind of paronoia......This crap goes on "ALL" the time, and you obviosly are not paying any attention or just don't care, because they aren't talking to, or about you!!
If you choose to bury your heads in the sand, and say this doesn't exist ....Fine! Try looking around, you might just catch a few of these CS little comments being thrown around. Just because they are not directed at you, does not mean it ain't happening.......
Steve asked for input, and other peoples point of view.......when someone tries to give it, if it don't go along with the "HERD", then they get branded as troublemakers, or better yet "Whiners"....what's the deal with that....??? Ted wasn't "Whining", Hassle wasn't "whining", and I might be a lot of things, But whiner ain't one of them!!!!!
Anyone wanting to discuss this silly crap farther........my number is a the bottom of this post................

Hey George, I like that idea, but sum may feel this ol' boy blows alot of smoke, I think all ideas should be considered.
CJ, I too don't care for labels, but will go along with tha' flow, all this ol' boy ask, is Pleeese choose my lable carefully. I've been mislabeled in tha' past(not here)and have got fightin' madd, at times. Then there are times, when I realize it's persons who care ta' label others, who have small minds. I really don't think this is the case here on tha' BB, and truly hope that I'm not mistaking.

Hey why is everyone on the BB getting so sensitive and easily upset. We will all be scared to break wind on the BB in case some starts to get upset. Hang on who did that - well I know it wasn't me.

I guess I have to say something here. I'm glad I'm not a resident 'cause I would have to move to get away from all the bickering etc...and moving's a lot of work! Changing school' for the kids, all those "We're Moving" cards for customers, changing addresses on all the paperwork...Nope I'd rather just visit! It's a nice place to visit...wouldn't want to live there. To be honest I never even noticed the member/citizen/resident/visitor/whatever thing until I stopped in today and seen all these posts. WOW! You guys got anything better to do? I only hope that the label thing doesn't lead to attitudes ie; "I'm not replying to that post their only a visitor" Steve keep up the good work...It's your site do want you want. Even if you change all the colours to fuschia and teal I'll still stop in. If I can help someone out I will, if not I'll move on. After all I'm just visiting!
