Gallipoli is a great movie, but might lose something when taken out of Australia. I'd be interested to know what you thought of it if and when you watch it. I guess you could liken it to plenty of US war flicks but hopefully it retains some of the wry humour. Another worth watching is The Castle, I'd be interested to see how that translates too, I believe it was dubbed for the US market. David

I like movies for their entertainment value and their ability to touch me.
Gone in 60 Seconds - the 2nd one. I would like to be Angelina for a day in that movie... bartending and a grease monkey for her "clean jobs"- what fun!!! ...I love fast cars that make LOTS of noise!!! My '66 Mustang is envious of Ellenor.
Scent of a Woman- WhoooHaaaa!
Rainman- "Kmart sucks"
Thelma & Louise- independance from the alcoholic suppressive ex-husband
Armeggeadon- this one made me cry for the relationship I don't have with my Dad
Fools Rush In- love it when "Cisco's girlfriend" Selma Hayek cusses at "Chandler" in Spanish... it sounds SOOOOO Cool!
Vision Quest- saw this movie with the entire wrestling team in High School... that alone had a lasting impact. A dozen guys and me walking into the movie theatre... it was a ego booster for a girl with not much in the self confidence department.... they were all my "brothers" but the girls there didn't "know that" and they were envious of ME for once! heh heh heh
Fastimes at Ridgemont High- "Dude!!!" It was just "Three Stooges" type funny!
Lethal Weapon (all of them) LOVE that crazy Mel Gibson!
Lonesome Dove- I could watch that movie over and over and over again.
Anything with Christopher Lambert (Legend of Greystoke and Highlander) love his EYES!
This was a fun break... Thanks Troy!

The movies I rate as my favorite, are the ones I can watch over and over and over and never tire of.
The highest on my list art the animated and computer animated films. I never tire of the art work, the story developement, the little things in the background that the artists add in. Disney, Pixar, and Dreamworks creations are favorites.
Antz A Bug's Life Shreck (now in theaters and a must see) Emperors New Groove on and on.... ---------------
As for movies on Satire..... My all time favorite comedy is:
GALEXY QUEST ( every aspect of the movie just shreds all the Star Trek series.
SPACEBALLS is mentionalbe for Star Wars satire ----------------
Action movies I can watch over and over:
Anything by director/writer Steve Speilberg Raiders of the Lost Ark...to Men In Black and more. I just like the way he tells a story!
-------------
Action Drama Love story:
PERAL HARBOR no contest...the best movie ever in recent history....blows TITANIC out of the water!
SAVING PRIVATE RYAN
----------------------- Not just sure where to place: FORREST GUMP but I liked it!

Silverstreak To Sir with Love Guess Whos Coming for Dinner Blackboard Jungle One Flew over the Cukoo's Nest The Long Kiss Goodnight Broadcast News Terminator The Shootist The Piano Total Recall Seven Harry in your Pocket The Colour of Money Fried Green Tomatoes Payback

Gavin, Glad to see someone else who has seen and appreciates "Hollywood Knights"...
Nettie, I could go on and on myself, I tried not to go back to far but I also really like older movies as well, as long as they have not been colorized or anything. I think they loose something.
I forgot about "Goodwill Hunting" in my Humble opinion it should have blown "Titanic" out of the water that year in the awards dept. Here you had two great movies, one you knew the story line, you knew it was going to sink, yada,yada,yada....The other one was just as well written, directed, acted, etc, but you didn't know what was going to happen next, and you certianly didn't know how it was going to end!!!!!!!
All these are good list's with alot of great movies on them!!!!!!!!

One of my all-time favorites is "Mr. Holland's Opus" with Richard Dryfuss. I liked it because it's basically about the paths we choose in life, and the values that we hold to in doing so. Personal integrity affects us all, and those around us as well.
The movie is about one such individual, and the lives he has influenced for the betterment of his community...and he does so without even realizing what he has accomplished.
PS: The movie also has some great older songs on the soundtrack too.
