posting this one here Mark b/c it probably falls under the dunb question file but i figured if you didnt know the answer someone else might.... I think maybe a week ago you posted on the portfolio page a set of channel letters you covered with a digital print,and i know you said you had never done it b4...my queston is this,will heat (assuming its backlit) build up of any kind from behind cause the print to fail faster? i know they generally don't generate THAT much heat but i just don't know diddly about digital stuff. I have something coming up that this may work on,i just hate to do it and have to re-do it next year...just wondering if this is something you felt good about or was just one of those things you kinda had to try then take the wait and see approach??

Gavin, Good question. I'm taking the wait and see approach on the longevity of the print. The heat from the neon probably won't affect the print more than the sun will. Neon doesn't produce a great amount of heat. The print supposedly should last 5-7 years (under ideal conditions, of course), which is about the same as high performance vinyl under the same conditions. I had a UV film applied over the print which should help some. Actually, I do feel good about it lasting at least a few years. It's not too unusual to apply HP vinyl to the face of channel letters to get a particular color, so this hopefully will hold up about equally as well. And when the time comes to replace the print, it won't be all that costly or difficult to do. It was really the only way to reproduce this customer's existing logo, since they wanted it to light up at night. They're pleased with the result. I just hope it lasts a long time. We shall see.

Hey thanks Mark...i was kinda hoping you would say,'well,i've seen 10 done this way 4 yrs ago and they still look new' hahahahah.....but thats kinda what i figured,and i have stuck vinyl on em b4,so i think i'm gonna give this a try,sure would beat taking em down,sanding them,priming em and painting them,so i guess we'll see
