Any one else out there in Letterville getting pelted by the rain from TS Allison? After 6 days of heavy rain I'm getting apprehensive concerning the Tangipahoa River flowing through my house and shop! She has moved back into the Gulf and is heading toward the New Orleans area which means we have only just begun to see rain here. We have had 20" so far, but the river is very full. If we have to evacuate I am going to my best friend's house in a nearby town and he is computerless! I already have cabin fever and can't stand the thought of going days without a computer, which leads me to beleive that perhaps I am (loosing it)!!! After all being without access to a computer is the LEAST of my problems. Who else out there is in the same dilemma? Perhaps we can keep one another sane while we wait and watch. At least our friends in Texas are now in the clear and can say a little prayer for US.
Waiting for sunshine and Margaritas, Kathy

Kathy.... Seattle gets rain but mostly drizzle. And I live on a hill....so I don't have your worries. But I am thinking about you ...and hoping you don't have to evacuate. What an awful feeling that must be to watch the river swell and to not know what it will be when you wake up. Hugs and prayers are coming your way........

Good news! I think all is well now that the storm has redefined itself a little and will move on eastward. It has compacted in size and will not leave the heavy amount of rainfall as in the past. Thanks Cheryl for the concern. Glen, the vipers around here tend to be of the 2 legged variety! Old Paint, watch out, you are about to be rained on because I'm sending it your way! Hope you can swim!hehehehe No, it will not be as bad now and will be like an ordinary southern rainstorm.
Thanks, Kathy

That storm is incredible! Has anything like this ever happened in Houston before? I'm reading that somewere between 28 to 36" of rain got dumped. There is even a report that somebody drowned in an elevator.

Kathy & and Gavin, I'm a little further west theses days, I moved just south of Lafayette in '99. We have had about 22-24" since last Wednesday. The roads were really messed up Wednesday & Thursday, but were doing OK. The Vermilion River is at 15' about 2' past critical.
Glen, This is Louisiana. I was seeing more snakes when there wasn't any water, before last week. When it's real dry, they'll come knocking on your door and ask if they can drink out of your garden hose.
Let's try and get a line on those Houston folks. They just built too many damn freeways over there. There's nowhere for the water to go, so the freeways flood.

Gavin and Santo I'm glad you are both OK. Gavin, you're right, looks like we got lucky and will not receive what was predicted. Santo, you're right about the snakes. In 83 the only snakes I saw were hanging onto limbs for dear life. The water from river flooding is so swift that they can't navigate. You know guys, if all of S.E. LA were to flood the only survivors would be snakes, fire ants and cockroaches along with the termites!

Tried booting up at the shop yesterday afternoon and it looks like the harddrive on my old 586 is not being recognized. I have to start working on that.

It's wet as a frogs back here. I'm about 80 miles north of the coast and it's rained every day for well over a week. I think I'm starting to mildew. It takes forever for paint to dry in this stuff. It's raining hard right now. I haven't seen any flooding here but then I'm just outside of town and across the river.
How about it RT? How are things downtown? I put on a fresh pot of coffee. If ya need a dry spot we can camp out here and tell stories 'til it breaks.
I hope the rest of ya'll are able to make the best of this stuff. We needed rain here but I wouldn't have wished for this.
Good luck, Wayne

Well, the waters are finally receding here in Houston. No, Glenn, I don't think there's been anything like this here before. We've had our share of hurricanes, storms and floods, but not on a scale like this. Some parts of town did get 36" of rain over five days. My part of town only got around 6". Interstate 10 (among others) was closed and it still may be. I haven't checked today. It's a major artery from Florida to California, so I'm sure it messed up a lot of travelers.
The lady in the elevator was heading down into the parking garage to move her car out and it started filling with water and drowned her. She has the same last name as a client of mine, so I'm gonna check to see if she's related.
They estimate damage at around a billion dollars. I can only imagine how terrible it would be to get flooded out like that. I'm sure fortunate it didn't rain that hard in my area...just pure luck, I guess.
Lots of cleanup and repairs going on. I hope I never see anything like this again...a little too close to home for me.

Thanks, Glenn, but we came through it with no problems at all. In fact, I passed along your info concerning federal assistance to a friend of mine that had some flood damage. He appreciated that. And I did too.
Thanks also, Mark F. Hope y'all are doing well too. Stay dry!
