I sold out my biz to stripe at a cool motorcycle factory. They are willing to help relocate "RIGHT" person to stripe in custom paint dept. Check out www.americanironhorse.com for contact info. I consider it to be a fabulous opportunity!

Went to a Harley show in Baltomore last year. Nothing but The shredded torn metal exposing the wavy checkered flag pattern underneath...on bike after bike after bike..
When will a Bike painters get away from the norm, and overdone and think of something new.
One custom painter did have a cool display. He mounted 60 gas tanks on a 4 sided wall. All you had to do was "pick one". Hows that for your "one of a kind" $2500. paint job.
At least striping allows you to actually look different than the rest.
my 2cents.

Mike............ The biggest reason is that "Bike Painters" are getting to be like all these new "bike builders"............There a dime a dozen and ya can find one on every corner...
Not sayin that some of these newer guys (and girls) aren't good, cause a lot of em are, it's just that the herd needs a good thinnin out............. Then the ones that are for real, and work for it, will be there and on top........I look forward to it, and working with some of these folks....
..............cj ps.......we're talkin about paint and building.....NOT lifestyles !!

I'm in Fort Worth. Just a few miles from where they make those bikes. They are Harley powered and some really nice bikes. Next time I have an extra 25 large sitting around, I'll go pick one up. (insert laughter here)They want a good chunk of money for those things. Did you know a fellow over there named Jeff Long? Last time I talked to anyone over there he was running the paint department. I haven't done any bike painting in years but I'll pass the info on if I run into someone in the market. I've talked to those guys before about doing some cast resin dimentional tanks. They didn't quite understand what the heck I was talking about. Maybe I'll give them a call again.

There are few places in this beautiful country I wouldn't want to live, Texas is one of them. The crime rate must be something as they are frying people on a daily basis.
I've had my fill of harleys to last a lifetime and to say "one of a kind custom paint" these days almost takes on a whole new meaning. Everyone seems to want something different in paint because of all those designers who own scooters have the same exact stretched tanks, billet foward controls, wheels, tires and their S&S motors.
I cannot understand why someone would go through all the hoopla and spend thirty grand to build a 110 incher just to get dusted by a stock Honda.
And if you mention that Hondas are take offs on Harley then you should know that Harleys are take offs on Hendersons and Excellsiors, I mean even Hendersons had stretched tanks in the twenties.........

C.J., next time you head towards Memphis, stop in Dyersburg, Tenn. There is a bike builder there named Monte Warne. He owns the Boss Hoss cycle company. They build V-8 powered bikes. I used to race with the guy and he is one of the smartest individuals I've ever run across. He also plays around with all sorts of weird airplanes. They have recently started putting 502 big blocks in some versions. I really had my doubts when I first saw one ten years ago, rideability and all, but his wife is a little bitty thing and she can handle one easily. BTW, Joey, I think they 0-60 in three seconds

Quote: "Wonder where all these "bikers" were before riding bikes was cool......??" Well maybe I'm not old enough (39) but I can't seem to recall when exactly that was - I always thought riding bikes was cool. (except for our neighbour who thought that he was cool by sawing off the silencer and riding up and down a residential area all night.)

CJ got it right..where were these guys when riding a Harley made you almost an instant outlaw?? Now the nerds are riding them..pretty soon they'll be the only ones that can afford them. You see alot of these new "bikers" being picked up off the road it seems they think riding is as easy as drivin the suv... We've only got one guy locally who does bikes but he's stuck right now in rock finishes and yes checkers coming out..so when someone asks me where to get a nice paint job on their bike I show them a copy of Signcraft..I'll do vinyl for the jap bikes they're mostly covered in vinyl to begin with..

Jeeze guys, I dont think the guy was asking to be verbally beaten to death. The guy was just trying to offer out to us brush brains that there is a job opportunity out there if someone is interested, I honestly dont think he caree that much whether the bikes they build there are better or worse than anyone elses, I think he just merely wants to give one of us a chance and to help out one of his brother/sister brusheads

Your "comments" were accepted in the obvious spirit they were intended. My point was that TALENTED people are making BIG bucks at this place, and we need more. I went to what I THOUGHT was the greatest talent pool around to tell of a great opportunity - obviously, I stumbled into opinionated jerks instead. READ the stats on this company at their website... and by the way, when was the last time Michael Dell, owner of Dell computers toured YOUR shop to invest? We need a talented striper - they will be well compensated - the atmosphere is custom paint Heaven - if it doesn't interest YOU, end of story, okay?

First off, let me tell everybody what I know about American Ironhorse motorcycles. I've been painting full custom bikes (when I say full custom, I mean from the ground-up, not Harleys built in a factory in PA. or WI.) for about 4 or 5 years. I've seen shops open and close, new bike manufacturers start up and shut down, and just as many painters do the same. Out of all these, only the good "people" survive. The ones that turn out good work, stand behind it, and treat their customers like they are important to them are still there. It's not about who was cool, who is cool, or who wants to be cool. It's a business, point blank.
American Ironhorse is one of them. They deal with good shops (the one in Clemmons, NC is a PERFECT example), and they stand behind what they do. Sure, they don't turn out ground-breaking, mind-inspirin' paint jobs...they can, though. I had one enter the bike show I had at my open house, and it placed third. It made me stop and look. So they've got potential. But the thing to keep in mind is they are selling to the public...and the public wants what's popular. Checkers, flames, and shred are popular, and they sell. You look through anybody's portfolio and at one time or another, almost every painter has painted them. I still do!!! They never look the same, but they are there.
So before you all condemn this fella for makin' his offer, get off ya soapbox and look at what they offer. Sure, we all sell ART around here, but we are in the business of producing and selling ART, too...

Joey, apparently the people you know with 110 inch motors either don't how to ride or don't know how to build motors. I know of about 30 or 40 people around here with 107's, 110's and 113's, and ANY of em' will tell ya that bustin' crotch-rockets (Hondas, Suzukis, Kawasakis, whatever) is as common as burnouts and 100 mph blasts...

yes Dwayne you must be right! And ten grand later they finally beat some kid on a nine hundred dollar crotch rocket, whoopdee doo.

Sounds like a great opportunity to me. If you are a striper trying to make ends meet, a chance like this just don't come along everyday. Thanks for sharing this with us Dave.

Joey, where can ya get anything with wheels for $900???? Besides, one of the fastest bikes around here, an orange hardtail with a WICKED 113,cost the owner about $16,000 to build...it doesn't have all the chrome ooh-aah stuff...it's just a fast bike, and it stands out, because it doesn't look like anything else out there... If you've visited ANY bike dealership lately, you won't come out of there with anything with any speed for less than nine grand...and ya still gonna have a belly-button bike...just like every other crotch-rocket...
