Ok, I admit it, this is a dumb question. But, please help anyways. I am trying to do text around a circle. One word on top, one on bottom. Top word will sit on the circle, bottom word will touch the circle at the top of the lettering. I did it the other day with an elipse. Today, the bottom word is going all funky on me. It either sits inside the circle or it's upside down. I know it's something simple and maybe I'm just tired, but now this is annoying me. What am I doing wrong?

Chris..Don't despair!!!! THAT is something that varous versions of Corel are either good at or not so good at. What version are you using?

Chris..If I remember correctly in version 8 you create the elipse, type the text, and then with the text highlighted go to "text/fit text to path" and select the elipse.
Click off everything, then select the actual text and in the menu bar at the top there will be various selections you can make..whether the words are to be above or below the line of the elipse etc. and there are also left/right and up and down boxes here you can adjust the text in any direction from where Corel places it.
I don't know if I am describing things in a manner that is understandable but there are all the adjustments you need available.

Thanks Dave. I got that straightened out, just need to tweak it some more. The letters on bottom look like they're run together. I'll play with it more tomorrow.

i use corel 7....and it dont do a text to circle for crap....i think 4 was better...i had to go to sign lab to get it right..but that one will drive ya bonkers. you need the cicle to be an exact dia. because it will tell you what the radius is where the text is gona set ...and you gota keep tweekin it..but it will do EXACTLY! i also loaded the demo SIGNTOOLS into the other h/d with corel 7..and it squewered it even worse...only way it will work right in corel is to type it..then dont stretch or manipulate the text in any way...if you do it will look funny...

What I do is type the word in, click fit to path, click only on the word, then, holding Ctrl I flip the word to the right. It'll place it upside down. Then I delete the circle & flip the word once again. If I'm not describing it right email me...I'm still half asleep!

Thanks everyone. I finally got it looking decent. I can't believe I couldn't get it to do such a simple thing. Well, maybe not simple, but I had just done it the other day, then couldn't remember how. Felix, thinking that was part of my problem last night, I was 1/2 asleep when I was trying to get this done.

I don't recall if this works in 8, but in 9 you can draw your circle. Then click your text tool on the edge of the circle. It'll automatically type the text along the path. This can be done with any shape, not just circles.
Give it a shot in 8. I'd be interested to know if it works.
Thanks!

Joe is right about not altering the letters first. You can only stretch them proportionally.
You can help with the spacing by using the node edit tool with the text selected. Move the bothersome letters apart some. It's mostly trial-and-error.

If you are having a problem with the spacing, this will solve it (this is correct at least for Corel 8). Before you fit the text to path, select the text and hit ctrl-t or go up to Text and then Format Text (these do the same thing). Click on the 'Space' tab on the window that pops up, and set a higher number for the Character selection. This will add more space between each character, and you can also change the spacing between each word or each line. hope this helps!

For website development I use a program called HomeSite ... I have 3.0 and 4.5 ... 3.0 rocks!
For gif, jpg creation, I'm all over the place. I'll create stuff in CorelDRAW, export as a tif, make changes in Photoshop 3.0, since I prefer editing there, then open it in Photoshop 6 to optimize file size. Wheeew! If I want an animated gif, I'll create it in Photopaint 9, then optimize file size in Photoshop 6.
Talk about crash city! I sometimes get lazy about closing programs, so I'll have Photoshop, Photopaint, CorelDRAW and Homesite open, along with all the browsers I review the pages in ... Netscape, MSIE, and Opera.
No problem, as long as I keep taking my meds
Best Regards,
Jim
