Hey! I got a job for a bunch of signs that only need intermediate vinyl. So.....I got a 50 yard roll of each black, white and blue. Well........it is not as wide as most. So when I cut it on my good ole' Roland...anything over 25 inches goes off track. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrr. What a bummer. I am taking it all back. Anyone else notice this? Do the germans not know proper sizes?? Some of us are still using older plotters.

I use a tom of Oracal 651 and I have never had anything like that happen. Hope they take care of your problem!

Hey Greg.....check it out. Put a roll of Oracal on the floor and stand another roll of a different brand up next to it. It is at least 1/8" shorter!! bummer. I can't sit and babysit my Roland all day making sure it doesn't go off track. 1/8" is alot when it comes to old cutters.
Thanks for all the jokes. Keep 'em coming! Have a great weekend.

you right cheryl....one of the many things i dont like about ORA-HELL....i have a roland pnc-1000 use 20" vinyl...ive goten oracal thats 19 1/2- 19 3/4....and every time i put oracal in i got to set the pressure harder so it will cut clean...takes more pressure to cut then avery or gmi..all intermediates...and eats the blades...so this is one of those "you get what you pay for deals"

"only needs itermediate vinyl" !!!!!!!

What are you saving? A few cents a foot in materials? For what? The job shouldn't be any cheaper!

I cost out vinyl at 10 times the material price. Therefore 90% of the end cost is labour and overheads (cost of running system etc).

On a $100 job reducing your vinyl costs by $2 to $3 doesn't justify stocking two grades of vinyl. Don't know about you but my vinyl stocks run into thousands of dollars! And that's all premium cast without duplicating all the colours in Intermediate.

Then you also strike the problem ... "it's only a temporary sign ... but two years later customer complains" hahahahha

And as Joe says ... yer gets what yer pays for

Hi Bushie. when you are doing fast corex signs that will be tossed shortly after use, of course it makes sense to use intermediate. When you pay 44.00 a roll for the inexpensive stuff and 140.00 for the HP it makes a whole lotta sense. sorry...I have to disagree with ya. I was given a small sample or two of the Oracal. It seemed ok so I bought some rolls It is not ok.

Jon-
A 24"x50yd roll of Oracal 651 is about $75.00
and Oracal 751 (2 mil) is about $185.00.
Assuming the entire 3 rolls of vinyl are used on Cheryl's job that is a $330.00 difference in just the cost of the materials.
Yes, you get what you pay for but when the job calls for intermediate vinyl why waste money?

Cheryl-
Oops. Forgot to mention....I use quite a bit of 30" unpuched Oracal 651 and it is actually 29.75" wide but my Ioline will accomodate anything up to 34" wide without a problem. Maybe the Germans need to work on their metric to english conversions... hehe

i stock basic colors in intermediate..white, red, blue, yellow, green and black. and gmi or avery here is cheaper then ORA-HELL. only time i get stuck with oracal is if iam doing something that i have to match..or cant get the color in avery or gmi....and for the cheap a** cutomers i got here...sure its what they get...and i tell em right up front
"you signs are temporary sign only"..and they are happy with that...i stock hp also...for the "dicerning client"..who dont mind paying a little more..

It sure would be nice to pay those prices for vinyl but we pay more than twice that for ours because of the exchange rate
