I just happened to check out Joey Madden's site, and saw that his arm was sleeved out. It seems to me that alot of letterheads and pinheads aren't exactly John Q. Public, and I was wondering if any of you posting here are into tattooing. I am into it heavily, myself, and have art in assorted places, including most of my arms and a full back piece that is in progress. Flying out to LA (From Cleveland) next month to get it worked on in fact. Sorry about the off topic post, just curious!

Hi tyler. Search under tattoos and you will find a vaguely similar thread last November 7th. This is not nearly so far off topic as it at first appears - some of us not only wear tattoos but also design them.

Tyler, who in L.A. is going to work on you?
There aren't many in La-La land I would trust except for Rick James at Sunset Tattoos.
My work was done in Wayne New Jersey bout 10-12 years ago by Carl "Shotsie" Gorman, colors are still like new, got other work by Lyle Tuttle bout thirty years back but its kind of blurry. When it comes to inks I make sure that the colors are not made by the artist themselves. The reason for this is to insure it will last. Some of the finest inks are made by Superior and to those who create their own from powders have not been proven to last.
Tattooing is artwork that is supposed to last a lifetime and to give your body to someone who wants to save money while taking your hard earned cash, these are one of the things I find out before they stick me.......

I have 2 at the moment, the one on my right arem I got about 15 years ago by a local guy and it is fading fast. It is a small dragon.
The one I got on my left arm is my design. The black work was done by a place in Rantoul,Il, I got it colored in about a year later at Border Line tattoo in Wisconsin. It is a large Mech. Dragon ripping out of the arm carrying a skull.
The first one I got is going to be covered up as soon as I decided exactly what I want.
I have a back peice in mind, but the wife say NO!!!! LOL

Joey, in response to your question as to who is doing it, it is Dennis Halbritter, formerly of Deluxe Tattoo in Chicago, where I had the first sitting done. Awesome tattooist. There are hacks everywhere. I travel all over to get tattooed, detroit, chicago, LA, toronto, pittsburgh, wherever the good artists are. Not only I, but my girl as well, she has quite a bit of work herself. My three loves: my girl (of course), tattooing, and sign design.

I have no tattoos out of fear of commitment. (I did however just get married) This comes from a fear that I would want to change the thing over and over....like I do the graphics on my shop signs, truck, trailer...etc...
I admire those who can say say yeah, put that on there for the rest of my days.
Both my father,(now a minister, who got it at 17 the first time he got shore leave)
My brother, who has eagles on his wrist, a feather on his calf.
My sister, who has a sea-horse on her shoulder.
Having never worn jewelry of any kind before, I'm still trying to adjust to the wedding band....I wonder if she'll let me change that next year.....

Need a DeLuxe tattoo artist? Try my nephew! Sure we're related, but, honest he really knows his stuff (awards 'n everything...)! Works at Shades of Gray tattoo in Oshkosh, Wisconsin--920-424-8282.
He recently talked me into making up a set of tattoo flash, the artwork they use to make the tatoos from. Eleven sheets with 5 to 10 designs on each, in color and the same on B&W outline sheets (the tat person uses the B&W for a template of sorts...). Even got one of a top-hatted, winged eyeball playing paintbrush-guitar on a splat background, lifted from the logo I did once for the Winter Brush Down, a letterhead event!
One tattoo guy called my designs "Hendrix stuff" and another sez it's "way new school". Detailed hippie stuff with bright colors would also describe it.
If you're interested in a set of my flash, contact me then, EH? Or if ya got any new places I could talk to about this, let me know, OK?

I actually make my living airbrushing fake tatoos on those of us who like to play with the idea without the commitment. Many of my clients go on to get their "pretend" tattoo traced over at a shop for real. Which brings me to a question...what so those of you who design flash get paid? I figure I might as well think about it since people are using my designs anyway.
As far as tattoos for myself... I doubt it but maybe someday. At this point I just can't decide on what I'd wan't to have forever, and I have a pretty strong aversion to needles (or anything that goes under my skin for that matter!)
Good luck on your inking.

Pat, what makes you think those "water wash" tats on Joey aren't permanent? Wouldn't he have to wash to remove them? Ha ha
I have a few from here & there, some have faded over the milennia, never regretted getting them. Now that I'm working I intend to get some more, but at The Magic Kingdom tattoos that show are not allowed. In the Navy it always amazed me the guys who would immediately use the excuse "I was too drunk to know what I was doing". Baloney! Nobody has been any drunker than I've been, and sometimes while I was gettin' tatted up, and I was well aware of the goings on.
I saw an interesting sign in a tattoo parlor in San Diego. It said "Ever notice - people who have tattoos don't care whether you have them or not?"
And one of the most interesting tats I ever saw was one full back job on a BIG biker, it was The Harley Owners' Prayer (like the Lord's) and there were a whole bunch of misspelled words. I wouldn't want to be the guy who'd get caught for that one, in case any body has the nerve to tell him.

Hi Guys & Gals- I am as yet, a tattoo virgin...but when I'm 40 next year, I'm gonna get one on my arse. Back when I was a waitress @ Venus Diner, I used to draw a cheeseburger high on my thigh. I used a rapidograph & filled it in w/marker. I'd tell the cuter truckers that I had a cheeseburger up my skirt. Sick, huh? Yins should check out Wm J. Krupeenski's (AKA Jumpin' Jack Flash)stuff. It is awesome! I want to run my fingers through his brain! Love- JILL

Always been facinated by tattoos, it's an interesting art form.....don't want it on myself, I don't think it looks good on women (personally) but I've always liked it on men....if the art was done well. I like to draw my own stuff with fine sharpie markers....I would be interested too in seeing some of the other's. A

My aunt Valeria had a "Property of Charlie" tattoo that I once had a glimpse of back when I was just a boy. Charlie of course was my uncle.
My sister has a Pegasus on her back and right shoulder and also a property of. I guess it all depends on how one feels about themselves and how together they are.
As a former psychology major and observer I always thought that persons coloring themselves with markers were just hiding from their own feelings.
Simular to a person wanting to go on that roller coaster but not having the balls.
As a man, I think tattoos look good on woman but really like woman who need no makeup are healthy looking and have a pierced tongue.

OK... has anyone got a good picture, to be used as a tattoo, of a european dragon, preferably flying, or sitting. I can find numerous chinese dragons, but that is not what I want.
My mum got a tattoo for her 40th, two dolphins jumping out of water, on her left arm. Looks great But me, I want a dragon... and not a chinese one! So, if anyone has any good tattooable pics of dragons (colour, preferably), post them up, or send to sanura@cuteandcuddly.com Any help with this is much appreciated!

devo has at last count 38 tatts he is still waiting to do his back
when our kids turn 18 we tattoo them so when know which ones are ours in a crowd! i get to design most of the work that gets done and devo gets to paints signs for the tattoo shops to pay for em
the eldest daughter got a bird of paradise on her shoulder which has grown over the years to include the castle window and sum of the wall that the bird sits on
the next kid got an R.I.P for his little brother (just like his dads) on his inner right arm so that it crosses his heart then a celtic arm band around to complete the thing
our daughter-in-law got hers across the small of her back and its a nice tribal knott piece
the next kid told us that after due concideration he had decided on his tatt.... he wanted caducius <-cant spell anyway its the 2 sepents entertwined around the rod... lots of sybolism and a very long story as to why this will suit this kid perfectly cept this boy also came us with another idea.... he wanted his tatt on his back now im not mean with money (thats why i never have any) but the size of our son shoulder to shoulder would mean that we would have to seel the house to pay for a full back tatt... it aint happening!!! we sorta sugested that since his lower legs are the same size as my waist (just kiddin) he sould concider that the BEST place for his ink
gee there are only 4 more kids to go and then u watch the grandkids will start lining up
as far as regreting the work that has been done over the years the only ones that devo has ever wished he'd not done are 2 small leaf designs on his hands, and like he says dont get little tatts... after 25 years they are just gunna be black blobs thay look woeful
regards gail
ps: katie i'm not keen on the asian dragons either. ill bring devo's dragon book to portland with me so u can get sum non-oriental dragons from that if u like, i just put on on the bonnet of the ute and it looks cool

Ok, Sorry for not responding sooner. Anyway I think Cheryl wants me to tell you guys a story I told about my tattoos days. Yes I have a few also. In fact if you follow Sign Builder Illustrated (not trying to toot my own horn) but in my story about Cuba I will have a section of my tattoos if it doesn't get edited, In one way they opened a door. If you don't get SBI then sign up now, how can you beat "free?" anyway...
Maybe about 27 years ago in my earlier days. I used to tack on people, I had my own little tattoo kit, at that time I used a womans electric shaver (they were smaller) with a popsicle stick strapped with a needle I set up to fit in the blades. At one time I used to go around with this chick who was involded with the drug under world. Ok I was a dope fiend too. (I can laugh about it now)anyway she knew lot of connections, who "money was no problem" but they wanted the best! Not saying I was a dynamite artist, but I knew how to tack with a good drawing, you make a pattern (sort of like signs). Anyway I meet this cat at one of these underground parties who has a tattoo shop, and asks if I would like to help him out, he would supply everything? Since I had no job I thought it sounded good. To make a long story short...this good looking white chick comes in one day, says "can you fix this?" It was a butterfly on her wrist, kind of badly done. I just happen to have one of the tattoo guns that was spitting in a splatter over the lines I had redrawn for the butterfly. Meanwhile the owner and his partner who came to visit him were "real quiet" in the next (I can see you) booth.
I finished the job, and she gave me a tip for doing a great job on refurbishing her wrist. As she walked out of the shop the dude asks me "did you know who that was??????" I said no, just some chick who wanted her tack fixed. Nah man, that was one of the head dudes of the Hells Angels ole lady! The dude that f*cked up her wrist, was found dead in a river up north!!! I said "ahh sh*t!!" why didn't you say anything? He said I didn't want to make you nervous.
