I just read the thread about cutting magnetic material on a plotter. Adriennes reply got me wondering about the different uses people find for this. I have seen the poetry magnets for fridges.I particularly like the idea of the shop name and no. going on the side of the shop van for people to take. This would have use at the Ploughing Competition or similar shows and exhibitions over here. So what else can you do with it?

We like to use the scrap magnetic material to make small calendars that we use as give-a-ways. We've found that magnetic business cards and calendars are less likely to be thrown away compared to regular cards.
Also, we donate a lot of the scrap material to a local childcare center. The volunteers use them to make flower shaped refrigerator magnets for the kids to use at home. The kids get to paint them and give to their parents.

We cut long strips and mark them for inches to use on our metal topped tables. They also will hold the edges of the bottom layer of film for multicolor inserts. (Not overlays, Inserts)
We also keep a whole slew of different messages on the back of our metal front doors to put outside for various reasnons, like "HEY>>UPS! Which tells the driver there's a pickup.

If you double-sided tape a strip of magnetic sheeting to the backside of your yardstick, it will greatly assist you when laying out the graphics (painted or vinyl) on the side of most vans & trucks. Nice to have the yardstick stay in place without having to hold it there.

Yuo can also keep a small piece of it in your kit to check for body damage on a used car you might be looking at.

Thanks for the responses you imaginative, creative and practical bunch of people! I think I just may print this one out and stick it to the fridge door. Just one thing though Pierre - I don't know how to check for damage on a used car with it. Oh yes I think I get it now - if there is a fibreglass or isopon repair then the magnet wont stick to it... very canny

I use the scrap mag to keep razor blades handy ... laminate with double faced adhesive then stuck on side of table.
My vinyl install toolbox is covered on one side and has a couple small steel rulers, razor/exacto blades stuck to it ... inside the box one compartment is covered in mag. to hold new blades so if the box tips over the blades don't fly all over.

I use strips of mag sheeting to hold my paper pattern on the metal face of the easle while using my projector.
Also....I cut it into stars about 5 inches in diameter....and mark a circle on the metal cabinet...then throw....hahaha, for those rare slow days....well...it is kinda fun!

I mounted a two inch wide strip on the top of the tailgate on my truck, so where the rubber edge on the camper shell window rides is on the magnetic strip rather than on the paint.

Here's another one that's useful: Tape a strip to the top of your step ladder if you're going to be doing any installation involving screws or nails. The magnetic strip will hold them in place so that they're not rolling off or dropping down below. It keeps them right where you want them to be. You can also wrap a strip around your wrist and have them stick to that if you find that easier.
