Hi there again!

I upgraded my flexi software from 5.8 to 6.3 but found that it runs far too slow on my 8200 powermac to justify using it.

It takes almost four minutes just to open up!

What mac should I upgrade to to get the best from my software, and are there any other hidden costs that I need to consider?

I also have heard that ATM sometimes has a conflict problem with the new macs. Any solutions?

Hope someone out there can help me out!

Philip,

I'm also a mac/flexi user. flexi 5.8, G4 dual 500, and 7200-100. One thing I would try first is increasing the amount of memory alloted for Flexi. This can help quite a bit. When you install new software, the computer defaults to the minimum amount of required memory for that application. I usually double if not quadruple the memory. How much memory does your machine have. Memory is so cheap right now, max it out.

You have options as to buying a new computer. You can go with a new G4 (i gaurantee you will love it) or you can upgrade the old computer's processor.

If you buy a new computer, remember that Macs no longer have serial ports or adb ports. so if you have old peripherals that use these you will have to buy adapters. I had to purchase a usb to serial adapter for my plotter, $65 from Griffin. and a usb to adb adapter for the damn software dongle.

Looks like i might be buying a new ibook this summer. Do some design work at my favorite pub instead of in my windowless office.

I forgot to add that i have not had any problems with ATM. There was a problem when the G4's first came out but that was solved rather quickly with an update. just make sure you have the latest version. The version running on your 8200 will not work on the G4.

I just bought a G3 upgrade from sonnet, and it helped my 8500 quite a bit. I went from a 180mhz to a 400mhz for only 200 bucks. Big difference in speed, especially in opening up programs. I'm also getting ready to add more memory. Dang stuff is so low, now is the time to fill er up! Try the upgrade or add more memory or both. You'll notice a big change.

I have a full copy of V5.8 with 6.0 v4 Mac upgrade. All discs, manuals and dongles for sale. Any offers.
I've never installed it on my G4 and it's gathering dust on the shelf.
