Hi Heads,

I just finished making a table for my son, He is really into Thomas the tank Engine stuff, so I built him a nice table I saw in book.

I made it out of scrap MDO and an edge print!

I'll post a picture later today.

What have you made using your talents, tools and other sign related stuff.

Bob, I really love the craft I choose many years ago but I've also was a pattern maker and made mens shirts and I'm not talking t-shirts. Today I make tools for working signmakers and pinstripers even though other trades have put my tools to work. I love designing stuff because I feel it comes so natural too me.........

We wrap packages to be mailed with vinyl. Fix hoses with holes with vinyl. Paint outdoor furniture with leftover sign paint. Make shop shelves with leftover MDO.Our kitchen cabinets have vinyl faces. I am currently working on another small business I am very excited about. With all my sign 'talents' it helps with this new venture ALOT! I will let you know what it is in a couple of weeks.

My work is a hobby of mine, but another hobby I love is customizing cars and trucks.

I'm in the middle of building a custom set of seats for my truck, out of fiberglass. Not just seat covers, the whole entire seat from the sliders that secure it to the floor, to the seating surfaces and even the seat back adjustment.
I will be making my own padded seat covers as well, waterproof at that.

One of the techniques I plan on incorporating into the design is very subtle graphic elements in the actual fiberglass. I'm going to lay cut vinyl graphics onto the prototype for the seats, then clear over the vinyl so when I produce the mold from the prototype then make the new seats from the mold, they will have slightly raised graphics on them as part of the gelcoat/fiberglass.

I have minimal experience stitching, but my grandfather was an upholsterer, my grandmother was/is a seamstress, and my mother learned from both of them so I can learn from her.

Who knows.. maybe in 5 years I wont be producing graphics at all.. or maybe I'll have an expanded business building custom automotive interiors, body panel fabrication, and have a graphics division off to the side somewhere..

One of my hopes for this summer is to learn from my girlfriend's mom-in-law how to make teepees. She is the "teepee" maker here in this area. I would then like to paint designs on them to reflect a story or message reflecting a certain tribe of Indian folklore or tradition.
My friend is one of my best friends I have in Ohio! Her husband is an anthropologist/archaelogist. Very interesting people!

Had oportunity aplenty when I was doing my apprenticeship and done a reasonable amount for decorative brackets etc but these are the ony surviving pictures of a couple of therapy jobs. Whenever somebody sees something I have done and says "I didn't know you could do that." I simply reply "Sign people can do anything." It's true because we have to figure out ways to do things that our customers dream up or we do. We deal with so many substrates, paints, vinyls, shapes, tools and do most things only once in a while. I pride myself in using tools for things they were never intended to do. We are truly Jacks and Jaquelines of all trades.

I make gifts for my kids and nieces and nephews - e.g. I made a wooden art box for my niece/Godchild which has a lid which is also a blackboard and her name lettered on the lid in the same style as the cover of the speedball textbook 23rd edition. I filled it with lots of brushes and crayons and coloured chalks and craft paper kiddie scissors etc.

This is too cool,

I find it very interesting to see what other talents people have beside sign making.

Adrienne, I loved that show, what a cool side line.

And Joey, I can really respect an individual that can invent tools and thing of such, who would of thunk you as a shirt maker?

I bet most of those shirts had pinstripes on them

My son is now 2 1/2 and when I was making his table I had him "help" me. He carried the wood ( with my help ) he even helped me do some cutting, safety glassess and all. Now he runs around saying he helped daddy make his table, how cool is that! I want him to have the experience of feeling gratification out of doing things himself. Hopefully this will help build his self esteem.

I forgot to post a pic, so when I get to the shop today I'll add it to this post.

Yo.....Michael! Tell me about the gasket you made. What material and how.

I've been carving Valances for all the windows in the house. Lots of fleur-de-lis and scrollwork. Carved a few Christmas tree ornaments over the past few years.

Sign Painter ????? Seems like about all (Sign Painters) that I have known over the past 45 years are a VERY talented bunch of people. If you are a true Journeyman you can weld, plumb, carpenter, paint, design electrical,,etc etc and the list goes on and on. As for myself I am building a custom design three wheeled motorcycle from the ground up at this time, I also have about 25 limited edition prints that I sell on my web Page and at several Galleries around the country. I also build and sell Fiberglass 55 Chevy Furniture and accessories....Check out my site, and I would welcome any feedback or questions....Shep'

Shep, cool stuff but I have a suggestion for your website.

Maybe try putting some navigation on the left, where you can access images of the chairs and prints, instead of having them all on the first page making it take a long time to load.

Looks like cool stuff but I was about to give up on the site cause it was takin a loooong time to load up!
