We're making some changes here at The Letterhead Website. There's no such thing as staying the same, you're either growing or shrinking. As all of you know, our community is growing like crazy. Change is never easy. We hope our vision for the future of this website will excite and intice even more of you to get involved. Here's some of the ideas we have in mind.
Barb and I have done all we can to make this website feel like a community. It's time we give the community a name, and do some of the things that will make us look, as well as feel, like a real community. We've talked to you on chat about our ideas and most seem to like the concept.
The first step was to choose a new name for our community. It had to be a name that appeals to all the varied people that use this website. Our community includes Letterheads, Pinheads and future Heads of any type. The only qualification anyone needs is a sincere desire to learn and share their knowledge with others.
Our community will feature your wonderful works of art, but the spotlight will always be on the people that love and create the work. A very personal place. After much discussion, we chose to call the community Letterville. A Letterhead Community.
Letterville will look and feel just like a small town. We've already asked Dan Sawatzky to design our town's look. It will have a library, city hall, town square, bookshop, petshop and a spot for merchants. Those of you who wish to actually live in Letterville and pay a small yearly tax of $50 will become Citizens, those that choose to not become Citizens will be Visitors. They will be free to roam around town but will not share in the benefits Citizens enjoy. There will also be Merchants in Letterville. These are the folks that supply us with the things we need to do our business.
This is going to take some time and money to impliment. We want all of you to share in the creation and development of this community. We've already made some changes to the BullBoard to reflect your current status as a Visitor or Citizen. Please let us know if any mistakes have been made. The last thing we want to do is divide the community. We welcome all visitors and we will do all we can, short of begging, to intice them to become Citizens.
We're going to need new icons, new names for our pages and lots of ideas from all of you. To be honest, we have no budget to finance all this. That's nothing new around here. The Bank stopped talking to us after my second heart attack. Despite this, and with your support and encouragement, we've managed to build a very popular spot on the Web. We'll continue to do whatever we can to promote live Letterhead and Pinhead Meets. Not much will really change except for the name and the look.
I could go on for ages here, but I think it's time to stop pounding these keys and sit back and listen to you. We expect some questions and we'll try to answer all right here at the BullBoard the way we always do. It's your turn. Tell us what you think.

I can say from experience that this site helped my Letterhead Meet and it's starting new Letterhead Meets with it's immeadiate response's! I totally support this new community and I only look to the positive direction that it goes. Steve and Barb keep it going strong and like any community you have your Volunteer Fire Dept., Gardeners Club, Restaurants, BARS (Ore's), and all kinds of ways this can go and have fun!! Thanks Steve!!!!

My old boss used to say "there is no such thing as 'status quo', you're either moving forward or falling backwards". As much as we get comfortable with a certain setting, if we are to grow, change is going to happen. I think your idea is fine and will be alot of fun and continue to be informational.
Now, two questions: Will the name of this site change? Will the Letterhead Website tee-shirt that I never got ('cause I never ordered one)become a collectors item?
Keep up the great work!
John

To answer John's question. Yes the name will change. We'll be needing a new logo for Letterville as well as this BullBoard. Will this become our Town Hall?
Our current URL's will remain in place. Letterhead.com, letterheads.com and soon, letterville.com will all point to the same place. All roads lead to Letterville!
Looks like the current Citizens are happy. What about you Visitors? We need to hear from you guys too. What sort of things can we do to intice more of you to move into town? Here's what we offer so far.
1.A chance to win some neat prizes in our monthly draw. Past winners have received CD's and software valued at thousands of dollars. Future draws include exciting new font collections, clipart CD's, videos, and a copy of SignLab5.
2. All new citizens get a key to the town's download page. Here you will find 14 exclusive fonts from the Fontry. Current and past Citizens will be delighted to learn that Mike has now added 2 new Atkinson fonts to this collection!
Dave Simpson has gave us a sample pack containing dozens of his most popular items from his SignDNA collection. Thanks Dave!
A sample download of 5 cool pinstripe designs from George Perkins. What a guy!
3. All Citizens will be designated as such in their posts and get this! Citizen's posts will soon include a photo of themselves.

So, will this village have a Canadian or US type political structure? Can we recruit Butler to be sherrif at the SIGN POLICE station? Will we have sign doctors in the graphic infirmary?
Sounds like a tremendous move to me Steve and Barb. How many paying citizens will it require to work? I know it musat be somewhat difficult for you since you never wanted to do any "pay for access" site. I think it'll be well accepted. Move on with it!

I think that this is a GREAT idea! Will there be any "swearing in" ceremonies for new citizens?

You may be right Gilead! Wonder if Mike Meyer might let us call this Ore's Bar as a tribute to a place where we had some of the best times in our life. And that was just Sam!
Dana...the photos will all be 60 pixels in width and fit in the column to the left under the poster's name. I'm posting a sample above. Ryan, The Town Genius is busy working on that right now.
The ideas are coming together for the design of Letterville. I have a feeling it needs to be a planned community as it will continue to grow rapidly. And you can trust me to make the visual version just like the real community we are...that is different from anything else out there!
It's gonna be a fun process.
any ideas from you or anybody else here are appreciated.
email me or post them here and i'll get them. All the buildings will need signs and logos of course and fabulous ones at that. I think we have the expertise here on this board to have the most fabulous signed town in history. help us out!
Great idea Steve! And thanks for the honor of putting the image together.

Funny you should mention Ore's Steve......It's about to be shut down. Why? well, I intended to have a private place where Letterheads could come at any time of the meet and relax and have a libation, and during my 2 years leading up to the Muster, I gathered things in this "Place" that I thought Letterheads would enjoy. It came to be the Bar that we partied in til 4am everynight.."Ore's!" (Named after the Man who ran a grocery store where my shop is from 1936 to 1966.) Anyway, it went over bigger than I ever imagined, so, in short....I met my goal. Now what di I do with it? I will be glad to lend the name and let it "Live on" in cyberspace in Letterville! The upstairs will become an apartment but the memories are everlasting! I'll send you an Ore's Logo that was never quite finished. Thanks Steve and Barb! keep up the GREAT job! I gotta go, it's happy hour and some of the locals here at Ore's get a little rowdy!

so, who died and made steve the mayor? huh? huh? sheesh... thought this was a democracy! well, i guess i will just have to adjust to calling steve "his highn...er...ahhh..honor". yeah, that's it!
i like this idea. just one thing... could we call our "assessment" something other than a tax? seems like i am always giving something to the taxman and i sure wouldn't want to look at steve with the same disdain! hehehehehehe!
have a great one!

I was out of town for 4 days and now I'm going back to read all the posts I like your new idea about Letterville. Did you make changes in the way I should access the board? I got a message that said "connection refused" So I came in here by going to the website first. You didn't change the locks on the doors while I was away, did you?

Hi Sharon...There shouldn't be any problem getting here. Nothing has changed in the url. If you want to come directly to the BullBoard, use www.letterhead.com/ubb as your default page.
Let us know if this problem keeps happening.
More great news regarding Letterville. Dave Butler is designing the logo that will identify Letterville! We also asked Dave to consider becoming Letterville Town Sheriff. Could this result in fines for impaired posting?
