EyeCandy 4000, a plug-in program that works in Corel and Photoshop, is available at www.alienskin.com. It can also be purchased anywhere you can buy serious graphic software.
They have a working demo that you can download for free. Three of the filters in EyeCandy demo can be applied and printed. The others are locked out from allowing you to apply.
Much of what you can do with EyeCandy can already be done Corel PhotoPaint. The difference is that EyeCandy has an easier interface and is much more intuitive.

Way Cool Glenn And how much did you get for those mags & how long did it take you start to finish? And since I don't have an edge, how much do you charge to do edge prints such as that (I send artwork in proper format)?

Well I have been playing around with demos of both Eye Candy and Fireworks and it seems that Eye Candy has a lot more to offer us as far as effects "ready to go". If you are looking to just apply a ready affect to a text file or layer using a program you are already used to , Eye candy does it. Fireworks has more to offer as a full program for web design and such, but about twice as much in cost. One thing that I can't get Eye Candy to do but Fireworks can is inner beveled letters. Good job on the demo Glenn. I can honestly say that this has helped me quite a bit using Photopaint and Draw together.

Karen, The mags sold for $325.00. It took me about an hour and a half to create the file. And, about another 45 minutes to setup for printing, cutting and applying.
As for charging, I pretty much do it by the job.

You can create pretty much all of what you see without EyeCandy, regardless of which version of Corel you have. Its just more time-consuming without it. Of course, somebody like Doug Downey could do it much faster with his eyes closed! You should see some of the stuff on his website!
As to the Step-by-Step, I whittled it down to the barest essentials. I had way too much information written down.
By the way, all of the settings in EyeCandy were on default.

Thanks Glenn! Just looked it over real quick but intend to try things out real soon. When I get the chance to create something that looks decent I am going to try the printing out on the Edge. Might be calling you to kinda walk me through that stage as I am not real proficient with the Edge. Don't get to use it very often. Friends machine!!

Thanks for the link and for the info. Having seen the demos you did of the bevelled letters I really am considering this as an addition to the stable. Thanks

Glenn, great work and info. One thing that would concern me is the shape of the mags. Magnetics really need to be removed at least every two weeks to clean both surfaces. With some shapes it could be asking for trouble with the magnetic material tearing.

Glenn, You did an incredible job with the step-by-step and the design! I tried it myself in corel 9 and everything worked great until I brought it into OMEGA. What parameters do set up for bringing this type of .Tiff into OMEGA? When I import I get a 3-4 error messages that say "Bad Value for extra samples". The colorspace profile defaults to "Gerber(GSP) SWOP CMYK". When the "Image Fill" dialog box comes up, I change to "Process", and increase the Thumbnail to 24 bits per pixel and high resolution. Then the image shoews up as tight verticle lines in a weird color scheme. Where did I go Wrong? Thanks again for taking so much time with this project, It is really Cooool!

I get the same error message from time to time if I use TIF. Other than the annoying message, it doesn't seem too affect the print. I suspect it is a bug in Omega. I've switched to using BMP since then and have had no problems.
As for the "Gerber (GSP) SWOP CMYK", don't use it. In Omega Composer, go to "File/Color Management" and click on it. At the bottom of the Color Management window you will find "Image Source Profile." Set it for the following....
Chosing the right pattern with the proper lpi is still a bit of a struggle for me. Sometimes what looks great on one design looks terrible on another.
Generally, I default to Gerber's Photo pattern, but sometimes it looks too grainy for my taste. Its been something of a trial and error for me. I've still got a lot to learn.
