I have a chance to bid on a very large project. Lot of lights with big sign, all dimensional and way to big for me to tackle. Buy my sales work ain't free. Anyone with any ideas on how to approach the appropriate sign company with this prospective bid and make a few bucks?

call a couple of the big sign co. and see if they pay a "bird dog"or finders fee fee...to people who bring them work....all most will if they do pay is a 10%-15%....i met some dorf here in pensacola told me he is a "sign broker"(dont do any work just finds people who needs signs, finds some hungry sign maker and tries to make all the money form the job)told him he couldnt afford me...

Kevin; If the sign company you're approaching is in your area chances are they're already bidding it. So they will make sure that their's is the best bid.
We do work like this for smaller shops that are 1-2 hrs away so it works out okay.
You are probably best off working as a saleman for them. That way you get your commission as soon as the deal is signed and downpayment received.
The other way is to run the billing through your shop but that can get tricky. Chances are the sign company would want a lage deposit before they start and the balance on completion.
That means you have to be firm with the customer about deposit and payment of the balance, or you'll be draining your own resources.
I set the limit at $5000. When it's over that I handle it myself and pay a commission. We were stuck once holding a $6500 balance for 6 months, since the end customer was giving a hard time about paying.
In that case a cheque magically appeared when our crane pulled into his parking lot!
