I mean......I am sure that his quickjuice is a fine product but......is he really the Messiah? Perhaps he is Elvis in disguise?

Obviously, his stuff does what it was intended to do, and bully for that, but why have we turned our collective noses up at that new vinyl suppplier that just joined up as ( I can only assume) a paying merchant to this site?

Double standard? Or do you just not like the clumsy hardsell approach...?

I have never met you Roger, but you must be a heckuva guy....to have such a fan club over app juice and solvents.

heh

Barry

This post is made with tongue firmly inserted in cheek.....so don't anybody stomp off mad, or sic batman on me....(only kidding M & M, so chill out)

Barry, Roger is a paid merchant on this site as well as an advertiser in many magazines that you may have a subscription to.

I however do not think that many persons here have actually met him but I'm sure he has helped many along with free samples as well as direct phone calls.

Don't you think its good to see a CEO from a large company participating on a bulletin board such as this one?
I know I would appreciate if more advertisers participated in the way Roger does.
As a matter of fact, there are more and more advertisers and merchants partipating here on the BB everyday.
Letterville is somewhat like a newborn, that is, it will take a while longer for other companies to realize what persons here generate towards their revenue and in time you will see more like Roger participating.

I believe persons who participate here appreciate the value of having persons like Roger, Pierre, Kevin and Rogers brother Jack showing us new products and helpful ways to improve the overall appearance of our craft. Even signage experts and journalists such as Jerry Mathel, Dave Draper and Francisco Vargas all participate on this BB.

Don't you think that these are some of the reason why this BB is great?

Hey Barry, I know of NO other supplier and merchant on this BB that sends out the volume of samples and instruction that Roger does. I'd bet he spends more on postage sending free samples than most of us do on a monthly utility bill. I don't mind seeing plugs for excellence in both product and behavior. Do you need some to try?

see?? Even I AM plugging for him!

Honestly I have used rapid remover, and have found it to be a good product for removing adhesive....I just wish he'd make a rapid remover remover.....

(no doubt there is such a product in his line and someone will soon be touting it's glory as well)

Sigh....

Barry, Don't feel too bad about mis-inerpretation. I trie yhe other day to put a smiley face next to a sentence so Roger would know I was just joking. It didn't work and he found NO humor in my question about his Rapid remover being mineral spirits.
My wife tells me I have absolutely NO humor anyway and when I make any attempt at it, It doesn't come out so humorous.
But she tells me I have to keep trying.
I just used Rogers Rapid Prep this last week-end and was sure glad I had it available.
Don't know about Roger for president but sure am glad when people like himself and Jim at Summa are the first ones to jump in and help when needed when their particular product is in question.
Thanks to anyone who goes out of their way to help another.
Hope some day I can return the favor.

Not going to jump into the middle of this one.
As he has given more in free product & Design Cash Contest and Give Aways on this board.
And likes to entertain us all with his comments and humour.(Right or Wrong!)
He's plugging his business like you and I do to on this medium.

Roger if your reading this post...you kindly sent some samples to R&D here in Sweden who are now owned by Spandex/Gerber....seems they were not so interested....but...I recently bought some glue remover...something new here a citrus based product....and gave it a try...it seems to work well...anyhow I got talking to the guys that sell it...they import it from the US, earlier today over an application we were using it on....one thing lead to another...and I started plugging all your stuff Rapid Tac 1 & 2, Rapid Remover Rapid, Clear and Rapid Prep....I said maybe this is something they should look into as the only distributor you have in Europe is Holland and I have spoken to Sign Top and its not worth the expensive to get it up here...that said the Swedish company would be much better.

I gave him the tel: no on the sample bottle in Merlin OR, I hope that was right as your in Hawaii?? I also gave hime your mail address.

If all goes wrong there you can contact Patrick at Enviro Technologies, and they are on the other side in Gothenburg +46 31 336 40 20. Hope you can get a deal going together.

By the way all of us that entered your logo contest were going to get some Rapid Tac, I believe you double checked my address. Nothing has ever arrived....just wondered Roger....maybe its still at sea mid atlantic!

Thanks very much Henry, I will call them as well !!

The reason you guys have yet to receive your "free gallon" is because we changed "t-shirt" printers, we want to send shirts and product together.
We are stayin on them, but they are good and that means busy, will have them to you all soon !!

Thank you again, Roger

I can remember a time when things were not so friendly here for Roger. When he first joined us as a Letterville Merchant, he was dragged over the coals along with his product. I'm sure there were moments when he must have considered giving up on Letterville.

Let's face it. Advertising in a live forum like Letterville is very different from more traditional advertising formats such as print, tv, radio and even direct mail. The biggest difference here is that the ads talk back. You get immediate feedback.

I'm glad Roger and our other Merchants have shown the belief in their product, as well as some courage, in sticking it out here in Letterville. Today he is not only a Merchant, but one of our neighbours. He participates in all Topics and refrains from using the BB to blatantly promote Rapid Tac. Roger and a handful of others, have managed to put face on their corporation. This breaks down the "them and us" barrier that often exists between suppliers and their end users.

We don't mind if Roger gets a free plug from time to time. He always pays his way, and as long as he isn't plugging himself, we have no problem. Merchants are always welcome to answer questions and set things straight when problems develop.

There is one issue that drives us nuts. It has come to our attention that some of you are being offered free product in return for posting plugs here. This may seem harmless, but it denies Letterville badly needed advertising revenue and insults those Merchants that pay to play.

A few weeks back, we had a great discussion here about copying fonts and other trademarked material. In the end, we all agreed it was an issue of integerity. We feel offering Letterville users free stuff in return for plugs, just as important.

Barb and I want to thank Roger and all the other great Merchants that contribute to Letterville, not only with their products, but with their time and help.

I don't know about anyone else receiving free product for "plugs" Steve, but I know that the only free stuff I have received was the sample pac that Roger sent me quite a while ago.

I still don't think his products are necessary for most of my applications but when they are I do use them and I do endorse them.

Sure is interesting that some folks are giving away product to have people promote things in Letterville! Kinda makes you wonder just how important this place is!!!!!

I'm not sure, but since I believe it was my post to thank Roger for the samples of rapid products that began this thread, perhaps I'm one of those that are supposedly receiving free products from merchants for "plugging" their products.
If this is the case, it could not be further from the truth. I had a problem with a car I did and posted asking Roger about one of the Rapid products I had seen on here and if that would fix the problem. He was kind enough to send me some samples. Others also posted offering suggestions as to what the problem could be and how to possibly fix it.
I then posted thanking Roger for the samples. That is all they were, samples. It's not like he is sending me Rapid Tac by the gallons in return for me thanking him or telling him I like his products (those that I have used).
I am new to the BB here and have found a wealth of information, thanks to everyone that posts. If it hadn't been for this site, I don't know where I would've turned for help with my problem.
Quite frankly, I think Roger is a big help to this board and all those who visit it. Granted, when he sends us samples, it is so we use the product and hopefully order more.
Have you ever received a sample of laundry detergent in the mail? The difference between the 2 is that Roger will answer questions and try to help when problems arise. It's not like he's going through the member database and sending samples and unwanted junk mail and spam to everyone listed there.
I agree that people should not receive free merchandise for posting plugs on the BB. This is suppose to be a place for us to be honest with each other, be it about pricing, products, techniques, tricks of the trade or whatever. If people are receiving free products for posting plugs, than that needs to be investigated further and (somehow) stopped. This is not a magazine full of ads and (allegedly honest) testimonials. This is a site for sign people to help each other, to learn from each other, to improve and learn about new products/techniques without risking money and reputation by using something that doesn't work.
I do like the Rapid products better than other similar products I have used. Some, I haven't noticed a difference in function/quality(not sure what the word I want is), but Rapid products sure do smell better than the alcohol smelling stuff. (That's not a plug, I just like the fruity smell).
Alright, I'm done, I'm coming down off my soap box now.

P.S. I won't guarantee a "plug" but if any merchants want to send me any free stuff.....

Steve said (of Roger, emphasis mine)"He participates in all Topics and refrains from using the BB to blatantly promote Rapid Tac. "

ummm excuse me?

I mean I really don't care whether he plugs himself or not, but he does do that...constantly...I would make a ridiculous joking example here, but I am too tired.

I noticed the fact that roger is always plugging his stuff, which is why I ever even noticed him.

Like I said, I don't care that he plugs his stuff, in fact it is actually funny...I sometimes read posts and can guess the ones Roger is gonna pop in with...

Like Old Paints recent post about using the 4 inch screen...somehow to remove adhesive from something... (OPingenuity I guess, love ya Joe )

Now Joe was telling a little tale of what he did, not asking "geez what can I take this adhesive off with?"

Just a lil story tellin' and here comes Roger...PLUGGING (need we the quote?) Rapid Remover....

Which is all good! it is neither my concern NOR my affair what he does, or how he does it to promote his wares, but lets not say he NEVER shamelessly plugs himself...for t'ain't true...

That said, I want to reiterate that I did not, do not want this to be seen as some type of rant or attack....I do indeed stir the pot, but that is kinda how you see what's in the dang thing.

Steve, if you see this as out of sorts or out of hand, please just delete the thing...'cause I never meant to ruffle feathers.....

But since I did, why are they?

Peace,
Barry

Whats the big deal ?
I'm not sure I understand your posts Tasmus, or what it is you are trying to say.

You say you are "just kidding" or "having some fun at Rogers expence" "don't anybody get their feathers ruffeled" well, what are you saying Barry ??

I'm not telling anyone that I don't "plug" my products, anymore then I tell(or ask) anyone to get on here and plug them for me !!

As many of you know, Joey Madden, Jerry Mathel are a couple of letterheads I know(they were in my neck of the woods till I moved)be asured that I NEVER asked them to PLUG my products(infact I can show you invoices that prove they don't get it for free ).

Barry, if the fact that I get on here(at letterville) and enjoy a topic or two, and
DO plug my wares(in an appropiate method)when someone talks about a situation of similarity, or a problem they may have.

Then why don't you just come out and say so(without the guise of "having fun at my expence") I don't know if I'm bothering anyone else, but if so might they please be honest enough to state it outright.
Under those conditions, I will gladly take my toys and go home(or somewhere Barry).

I have a lot of enjoyment coming here, and I(as others) learn something nearly everyday(always love to learn) not all things I learn are sign related (hope you don't mind OT posts too)but important or fun at NO ONES EXPENCE Barry !!!!

I'd have to agree with Tasmus on that last post. Steve is a little off base on the shameless promotion part. No biggy to me though. What honestly bugs the heck out of me are the "Hey Roger, where's my samples?" posts and the "Thanks Roger posts". God gave you email...use it!

I finally ran out of all the samples I've received at Letterhead meets, now I'm hooked and I'm a regular customer. Maybe Roger is a sign biz version of a drug dealer. Probably hangs out on street corners with sample bottles taped to the inside of his trench coat. "Pssst, hey kid, wanna try some Rapid Prep?"

Just kidding.... I've seen cases of samples being given away at meets.... a testament to your generosity. So plug away, Roger... you're a good guy with a good product.

Let's fill the back of my truck with RapidPrep, set up a ladder and have belly flop contests. If there's any left over, I hear it makes a great barbecue sauce.

Well it is kinda addicting, I agree.

The hard part about this whole buiss. of mine is squeezing the *#^* outa so many
Oregon spotted owls, just ta make one case.
Gettin better though, the govt. cracked down on clear cuttin, so theres a lot more owls to be had for the squeezing !!!

Of course he pays...$50 to me for each mention of rapid tac on the board....in fact, none of the people who post praising rapid tac really exist...it' really just me,padding my weekly check from Roger...but now that Tas has uncovered the Scooby Doo ending to the whole thing Roger....i fear i have to get a real job now, games over....but admit it,we had you all fooled....but in all seriousness, hats off to Roger for what he does here,as well as the other people, like Kevin from 1shot,cant remember Mr Clipart right now(name escapes me) and the others you see answering questions here....as a distributor also you don't know how rare that is among product suppliers, most times you only get sent to some coroprate kiss ass who dances around a question and won't admit something doesn't work until it falls well within their standard deviation data for product error...and then still won't admit to problems...remember all this preaching people do here on how 'we must educate the customer'...well,thats what these guys are doing here and no,it isn't easy....especially when you remember that most people you talk to about a new product or a better product a)know everything b) are too pathetically cheap to try something new even if it saves em money in the long run c)jealous that someone else got off their ass and is making money and they aren't.....now put yourself in their places and think back to the last time you argued with a customer or agaonized over artwork they brought to you etc.,and imagine doing that a couple of hundred times a day....not as easy as it seems is it?? NOPE it's not....so lay off em...if it's kosher to praise someone's work here, then why is it so taboo to praise a merchant's product when it works? It's the same thing..what's good is good and what's bad is bad.....and if you don't like the stuff,DON'T use it and skip over the posts that say THANK YOU ROGER etc etc

Well finally! This post has (toward the end here) finally taken on the tone I intended!!

Love the belly flop line, I really did laugh out loud!!

Roger, relax. If I owned rapid tac, I might likely do the same thing. God knows I am agressive in sales around here.

I know you actually believe in your product, and I feel strongly that you promote it here not just to make a buck, although that must be powerful motivation too .

I believe you plug it in an effort to help a group of folks you actually feel kinship with, which is a rare thing from a fellow in your position. You could just as well be a faceless coroporation, but you don't, you get right "in the trenches" with the heart of the industry, and people can sense your sincerity.

So I join Mark Fair in the hats off salute.

seriously.

but you DO plug yerself shamelessly!! LOL!

Barry

Hey Roger the truckload of Rapid Remover used as a brush cleaner you promised me hasn't arrived yet for Amazing May. You promised Mark Fair and I a shipment every quarterly when we get into it on the BB. I have a written contract I'll give to my lawyer if you don't stand behind it!

BTW, Barry, Old Paint and Mark Fair stop emailing me! You'll get your R/R when the truck arrives..........

Hi Heads,

Just adding my 2 cents in the mix. I've been putting on vinyl since the mid 70's. We had to invent our own application soulutions.
We had to figure out how to work with different solvents to remove the glues as well, when removing vinyl.

I have been a tad bit skeptable of the new products like Rapid Tac or Action Tac or whatever else is out there. I heard stories how the people who sell spring water at $1.00 a bottle just pump it out of their well on their tiny little ranch out in Montanna somewhere, no quality control and..it made me mad....and for a long time
I felt aplication fluids were made in sombody's sink and marketed to rip off the unsuspecting "newbies" in the industry.

Well, times and attiudes have changed around here at least a little. At the Brushfire meet in Indiana, Rapid Tac and Rapid Remover free samples were in abundant supply.

I tested the products....just to find fault.
Couldn't find any faults with the product.
And it certainly smells better than the home made mix I was using.

I give Roger 2 thumbs up for his products.
I give Roger 2 thumbs up for defending his product publicly.
I give Roger 2 thumbs up for taking time to personally help others with problems. I really respect that.
I give Roger 2 thumbs up for supporting this website.

I give Roger 1 thumb down in only one area.
I dissagree with comments made that say alcohol shouldn't be used as a cleaner and surface preparation, or that there are no comparable products locally available as cleaners and surface preparation.

So, Roger has won my hard ass over.

Well, if Davey can put in his .02, so can I. People plug Roger? Roger plugs Roger? So What!?! So dam# what?! He provides advice, info and a service to all of us. He's making a living just like you are? What bothers you about that? I plug Pelucid, when it's warranted. Truth be known, I don't give a tinker's damn if ANYone here buys it. I make nickels and dimes on it anyway, and anyone buying it knows that. I started the whole thing as a simple referral to help letterheads. I kinda fell into distributing, but the $$s and packaging are virtually a break even for us. Despite that, I don't begrudge Roger plugging the daylights out of his schtuff. Why on earth should you even mention it? I didn't get the feeling that it was "all a jest". Sell your signs, make a living and let Roger make HIS living.
Geez, man.

Okay Pierre...I don't like you either.

What's the deal with this superslicky pelucid stuff anyway? Why the heck does it taste so bad? Yeesh man, when you say "all purpose" you really shouldn't be so loose with the term.

LOL,
B
P.S. I have actually never tried Pelucid, can I have a free sample? Y'know, somethin' small, like oh...a 5 gallon bucketful?

THANKS P!!!

Came home from work one day to find my son in the garage hammering something into a block of wood, asked what he was doing he replied" I soaked these worms in Pelucid, let em sit overnight, now I'm using them for nails"
I asked him to let me try some, if it worked there will be a new Toyota pickup in the garage tomorrow.

Next morning he came to my door(a bit confused) asked why ther is a new Corvette in the driveway ??
I told him "the Vette is a present from your mother, the Toyota is in the garage !!"

YEaaaaa Babbyyyy !!!

P.S. Thanks Tasmus, the drums in the mail !!
