A few weeks back, we had a "prodical" customer come back to us. They were in the process of getting in a brand new fleet of vans and pickups for their business. There were 25 vehicles in all.
The old trucks were painted a custom shade of blue. But, because of the ever increasing costs of doing business, they decided in just getting all white trucks and save the money normally spent in repainting them their company blue color.
They knew exactly what they wanted. Needless to say, it wasn't too exciting. But, the layout was designed by their "professional" design artist.
I wasn't too impressed and made a few suggestions. Well, they rejected them and wanted me to do the first set of trucks according to their spec's.
The day after they picked up the first set of trucks, I got a call. The owner wasn't thrilled. In his words, the trucks had no personality. .....BINGO!
He asked me to strip the lettering off one of the vans and do what I suggested. I told him I didn't plan on removing everything, just add a little flourish to it.
I got a call the day after he picked up the modified van. He was thrilled.
As you can see, the only thing I changed was adding a stripe. But, it was enough to give it a little personality without costing the customer an extra arm or leg.

You da man glenn........ You are right about simple things making lots of difference. Sometimes after I have put the vinyl on or handlettered...and it needs a little oomph I will add a quick handpainted drop shadow swoosh just under each letter. Yeah...... 'I' da woman!

Shane, I used the Gerber Edge. I printed it at 15 LPI. Then I clearcoated it with FrogJuice. "Mechanical Contractors" was then Edge printed and applied on top.

There are various paints that can be sprayed onto vinyl that can create the same effect.
For a really cool effect, try some pearl powders from House of Color. Mix the powder with FrogJuice and spray it on BLACK vinyl instead of the usual white vinyl.
