Let me first say that, in general, I LOVE my signlab.....BUT, I am also sick of it!!!!
Has anyone else had trouble with truetype fonts disappearing? I have Very few on the system, yet I can go from one file, and open another and all of my ttf fonts will simply disappear! I mean you can see them in the browser, but if you try to select them, signlab says they are not loaded!! The only thing you can do is restart and they will return....for a while. Frustrating, and tech support is clueless.
THEN, there is the issue of the plot spooler trying to send TWO jobs to the cutter at once. I have been on the phone for DAYS, and they still cannot determine the source of the problem....
Has anyone else had similar issues with this otherwise great prog? I am using 5.0 revision 6.3, and any added insight would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks! Barry

Hello Barry, Although you have been contacted by telephone regarding the problems you are having, I will repeat them here so others on the Bullboard may potentially benefit as well. Regarding the truetype font issue: You mentioned in your post that you had very few truetype fonts on your system but during troubleshooting it became apparent that you had about 850 truetype fonts installed in Windows. To Windows, this is considered an awful lot. In many cases, this is far too many and can cause the exact problem you referred to in your post. There is a technical document available on the Microsoft Website Knowledge Base which describes why this is so, so I will not go into all the boring details here. The solution is to reduce the number of Truetype fonts you have installed in Windows (down to about 500 - 650) then rerun the Signlab font installer (so that the internal font database will reflect reality). Once you are satisfied that the problem has gone away, you can start incrementing the number of Truetype fonts installed, until you find the threshold.
As far as the Spooler issue is concerned: Although extensive troubleshooting (far too much to document here) has already been performed, we are yet to conclusively determine the reason for your problem when spooling. One distinct possibility is a problem with the serial (com) port itself. There is also a chance that there is an obscure problem in the spooler's code but, if that were the case, we would have expected to have seen your problem before. In any case, we are not ruling out either of the above possibilities yet. If you were willing to install/use a different serial port on your computer we might be able to rule out a configuration/hardware problem.
I hope you have found these comments useful; I do welcome any comments from you or any users of Signlab who have experienced the same thing as Barry or who might have other insight.

I too have experienced the same difficulties with Signlab 5 rev. 6. The suggestion for using a different serial port has been tried but didn't seem to make any difference. I personally feel that the problem is in the spooler program itself. With an older version of Signlab it was nice to be able to stack the jobs into Spooler and have them cut in proper sequence; not so in Signlab 5.
Come on Cadlink, find the problem and send us a patch, please.

Hi Roy, We are continuing to look into this. It is good, though that there is more than one person experiencing this problem as it might be useful for you both to "compare notes" and see if there are any common threads which could help us determine the cause/solution. Barry should be letting me know of any common threads, but feel free to give me a call as well. 888-744-6522. Thanks, Mark
