What do you use when painting treated 4x4 posts? I've been using 1shot and I've noticed that some of the post after a time are peeling towards the bottom of the posts. I usually prime first with Kilz then paint. Is there something else I should be doing? thanks Judy

I like to install posts unpainted and leave em for a while...they seem to hold paint longer this way. Keep the weeds trimmed at the base..or better yet...a lil weed spray. I know lots of people who use kilz...it is not my favorite primer.Doesnt seem to last,at least in this area.I like Cooks.... And I use lettering enamel as opposed to bulletin colors for all posts and backgrounds too.
Just take some lettering enamel and thin it down 50% with mineral spirits (good ol' paint thinner). Apply the mix to the posts. Let it soak in and dry overnight. Then, paint the posts with lettering enamel at full strength.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I've never had a failure in the 12 years I've been doing it this way.

Glen I am with you on this one as that is the way I do it!!!! Letting the 30-70 40-60 or 50-50 soak into the post first and letting it stand dry for a day or two. Then giving it a full enamel paint coating next ( maybe a small touch of spirits to help in the application or drying! No primer needed. There is enough grain in the post to hold the paint.

Most pressure treated pine that I get is soaking wet. That's the way they make it I'm told. They saturate it with chemicals (including arsenic Joe) . I'm with Michael, I let mine dry first. But...I prime mine with solid color acrlyc latex stain and follow with two coats Sherwyn Williams DTM acrylic Latex paint.
