does anyone know what equipment is available to make braille signage example toilet signs etc. I have just been asked to manufacture quite a lot of signage because of some law changes here but as I have never had to this before I am completely stumped I don't even know anything about the braille alphabet any help would be much appreciated Thank you in advance

Hi Ian, To make signs in Braille you need to have some translation software and a braille embosser. I know of one company in Jensen Beach Florida called Enabling Technologies who do both. Karen is right about the translation. The English alphabet has little correlation with the way braille is written. If most of us tried to write "mens room" in braille, it might well come out "s**t in your hat". I guess that is why most shops have depended on ADA sign manufacturers to do the actual production.

I lettered a bunch of braille signs recently. Used an old sable (Grumbacher 9355). It worked great at making the dots round with just a sleight poke. I used low contrast colors 'cause few have to really see it. I studied the text and it was all in English, and braille is all caps...how boring, but the inspector still hassled me about it. I assured him that 1-Shot will hold up fine with all the finger touching, but he still would not sign off the job. What jerks.
