I am just now bidding on a couple 4' x 16' sandblasted signs and they would like to see copper cladding on the posts and caps and copper border and text on the signs. No problem with making the signs, but what is the best way to go for the copper so that will last?

Copper leaf is available for the text; and I'd use copper flashing on the posts. Copper has to be clearcoated or it will oxidize green, and the clearcoat has to be maintained for the long term. In short, it's a high-maintenance sign. Either sell them a service contract to recoat that copper anually, or sell them an alternative, at least on the lettering part. I personally like the patina-color of oxidized copper, but if the client wants it to stay bright, it has to be properly looked after.

Hi Brian,

You might want to check out "LuminOre" 760-634-5474. They have a process for metal clading nearly any surface.

Good Morning Letterheads.

I was quite taken back this morning when I read Brian's post and found my name on one of the replies. While the recomendation of "LuminOre" may or may not be a good recomendation, it was not posted by me, and I am quite upset that someone is using my name here on the board.

Thanks Barb, for straightening it out. Glad it was just a compter fluke and not a deliberate theft of identity.
