I just bought a new HP 933 pentium, 60 gig HD, and 256 meg of RAM, with supposedly burst casche out the yingyang. My programs are still bogging the memory into sluggishness way to often and locking up on simple chores. It is bottlenecking memory in a bad way. Is anyone else having this dilema? It is worse than my old 233/586. Bronzeo

Hate to tell you this, but it's because of the name printed on the machine.
HP's are junk. They used to be good but in order to compete in the consumer market HP had to find the cheapest components they could.
You can try formatting the hard drive and wiping out all their pre-installed bullcrap. All that stupid software they preload on machines really kills the performance.
Start off with a fresh drive and DONT put all that preloaded garbage back on and it will be a little more tolerable.

Yep, I have to agree.....HP just aren't as good as they used to be.
Meanwhile, you may want to try this...
Go to.... Start/Run/msconfig and click on the "startup tab." You'll find a bunch of programs running in the background sucking up all of the ram. You can selectively turn most of them off. When you reboot, they won't start up, thereby saving your ram.
With ram prices at such low prices, you may want to look at buying some more. I just bought 2 128meg ram sticks for $45 each at tigerdirect.com.
I have used Dell exclusively. We tried to use a computer from gateway and it conflicted with my Gerber equipment. My distributor suggest I use Dell and don't regret it. I also think they are very price competetive.

I sure wish I, or someone here, could help you solve your problems with the new computer. Heaven help you trying to get help from HP! That's not an easy feat.
Are you still within your grace period to return the system? If that is something you end up doing, I too, would very much recommend the Dell.
The Unit specifications you just described would be quite reasonable in cost too.
I hope the situation makes a turn around for you. It's disappointing to have problems with a computer, right outta the box. But perhaps that may be the best time to have them ... while you can still return it.
