Just one more thing . . . I have these quotes on my wall and they always provide great inspiration for me. I got them in Pheonix, AZ around 1991 and the words seem so familiar - probably because I understand them. I suspect most - if not all of you - will understand also. (And to be politically correct you must realize that the word "men" or "man" refers to all of us - not one gender!!) Enjoy.
---------- Jay

Some men are acutely sensitive to their environment, their inheritance from the past and the future of mankind. Their maturity comes from having lived life in its fullest sense; they stand as individuals. These men possess a tremendous need to share their findings and express their subsequent emotions. They do so by externalizing their sum total in very personal symbolic terms. These men are called artists. They are the men who will lead mankind to peace, for their sensitivity places them closer to the lifestream from which oneness will evolve.

A true artist isn’t necessarily the painter, the poet, the sculptor, the musician, etc. He may be a man quietly wending his way through life – only he is set apart from the mass of humanity by his insight into the nature of things. And his search for “reasons why” has brought him higher on the human scale of things

Jay, thanks for sharing that, do you happen to have a source for it?

Gavin, thanks, that quote will come in handy for a meeting I've gotta be in later today.

right now though, I'm gonna grab a nice cold Grain Belt and ponder all this. (thanks for the inspiration Mike)

Invictus
A poem by William Earnest Henley

---------------------------------
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winched nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.

Jay,
Observations historically show that the ohilosophers hung out and partied with the artists who's function seemed to be taking the ideas and converting them into images that would be accepted by the sector of the masses that would change a society.
Some of the arts baffle me with their statements. Remember a few years back when folks were getting those pants that meke them look flat? I wondered what the fashion designers were prepping us for? Art and philosophy define beauty (or the lack of it) to the masses.

Just a few of my favorites.

"I don't want to achieve immortality through my work. I want to achieve it through not dying." - Woody Allen

"I'm not afraid to die. I just don't want to be there when it happens." - Woody Allen

"It is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

"Life is like a grindstone: whether it grinds a man down or polishes him depends on the stuff he's made of."

and finally my favorite...

Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

Nothing is fool-proof to a sufficiently talented fool.
