I have posted this on the end of the other post regarding fonts but I think that it merits a seperate post, see what you think

It has been great to see the responses of the actual people who make the fonts happen but I have a question for them. What does someone in my situation do?

I am blessed to have a regular customer (an awning company) and they have 20 agents all over the country which means a fair bit of work but it can mean that there is a lot of matching of font styles.
Now these jobs would be four or five words and that’s it for that typeface. I wouldn’t need to use it again unless that customer comes back to the awning company again. I do buy fonts but I would find it hard to justify the cost to my customer of maybe adding 20%-30% on a single job. I am doing maybe $1500-$2000 of work per month with these people but I don’t want to price myself out of the market. I am not looking for fellow letterheads to send a font to me but how would the merchants feel if I was looking for one word in one typeface?

Let me put it this way. I love the ‘Americana’ typeface, I use it nearly every week, and if it hadn’t come with Corel Draw I know that I would have purchased it. But I feel differently towards a typeface that I will maybe use once. Can anyone help me with a clear way to see this? You guys and gals who actually make the fonts, how would you feel if I rang you up and asked could I use one word in your typeface and that only the once?

I don’t believe in copying software or music or anything like that. I simply like doing things the right and fair way to all concerned but what do people think of this situation?
