well, the production guy and the set decorator walked into my shop this morning. The set decorator is the one that did all the talking. The first thing out of her mouth was... "Mister Fair, i just want to let you know that this movie we are doing here in montgomery will be a very prestigious thing for you, the star of the movie will be Angela Bassett and of course you know that we have spent most of our budget on Miss Bassett! we do not have a great budget for signs!"
my answer to this was that i am on a budget myself. LOL
Miss Bassett needs to eat and so do i. my shop rate is $60.00 per hour, this does not include materials, traveling time or being on call 24 hours a day. I will be glad to work with you anyway i can, you name the type sign you need and what year the sign was done and i will match the period.
I let her know that the more she could streamline info and no suprises the more cost effective the work will be.
she said she would be back in touch with me tomorrow after her and her production staff make a list of the signage needed.
we will see... hahahahahaha
the way i figure their budget at this point is Angela Bassett, 10 million dollars. Mark Fair Signs, 250 dollars. LOL
Sure...if you were new to the business this would be prestigious...but the way I look at it, you are a true craftsman and a talented musician. I just hope it's not to late for her when she realizes who she got to see today!
Approaching someone with your skill and talent, with an insulting speech like that is the best way to ensure a ride on the mahl stick in my shop!

thanks folks for the moral support. I have not ruled the work out just yet. If they are looking to get it cheap, they have come to the wrong sign shop.
As much as miss basset is being paid seems like she could knock out a little signwork between takes in her trailor!!!!

Hi Letterheads, Angela Bassett here. Since Mark Fair will not do the signage for my upcoming movie for cheap, I have asked Mark to let me use his shop tonight so that I can start working on the signs.
Mark just left the shop and went home to watch "Jerry Springer".
I need your help please... does anyone have the typeface, "Frutiger Rotund"??????
send it to me at... AngelaB3447@yahoo.com
thanks in advance.

Wow! Hi Angela! Do you know Bob Harper? Awful nice of Mark to let you use his shop for your sign projects coming up. Do you use a Mahlstick or does a bodyguard hold your hand still? Angela, how bout pawning one of your earrings off and donate the thousands and thousands of dollars to Mark Fair for rent of his shop? Really? Thanks! He'll be overjoyed! One last question Angela......do you like Grain Belt with your Grits?

Mista Mahk... It is such a shame you are passing up on this opportunity! I would have painted my own signs since I had done that in high schoolll, dahling. My camera crew is so grateful to be able to donate their time to be around me,, I don't even have to pay them. I offer them a picnic at the end of the year. Look, dahling, we have decided to give you another chance and we will film a step by step at no expense if you would like to be a part of our advertisement crew! I am shore you can closeup your small shop for and instead of worryin about money, we can make you famous with our staff. You need to be here at 6 a.m. everyday for 3 weeks, lunch is on the house... and dahling, don't forget your sign kit and scaffolding (ours is tied up) Don't be late! I would be chaaarmed! signed, Miz Angela's promotion committee chairperson

I got a letter from a friend last week telling me rather gleefully how he said NO to Diane Keaton when she personally came to his door wanting to use his house as a set.
Yesterday I got a note from his wife saying they'll be shooting there next Wednesday.
