I just bought a 14" Band saw(Rigid) it was a good deal, maybe too good. It was brand new and I used to cut about 40 HDU letters then shut it off to answer the phone. When I came back to fire it up, the motor just hums at me and will not turn. Obviously its going back, what brand, size do you prefer (I am not sure that this one was going to big enough either). What should I look for? As usual, thanks!

I think Jet would be my choice for a midsized saw. About 400 to 500.00 I have a freind with 4 saws and he prefers it. He also has an industrial size one that costs over 2400.00, but large for most users. He also has a Delta that is pretty good. I would think about the extention block for height. It costs an extra 100, but doubles the uses for the saw. I believe Victor guides are the best ones. Something like that (Might be anouther name). Guides are the most important feature to any of them.

I have a 12" Jet (sometimes I wish it was bigger) that is a real work horse. I checked around and found this one to be the most user friendly and it had a $50.00 rebate to boot!

Brian, One of mine is a 10'' Rockwell/Delta "Homecraft" which my Dad traded a shotgun for. The other is an old 12'' Craftsman for which I paid $100. They both work great and the guide bearings happen to be interchageable. I do sometimes wish that they were larger. Grizzly Industrial www.grizzly.com has just about any size you need from a little 9'' benchtop for $169.95 up to a 7.5 HP 24'' for $1895.

I bought a Grizzly 14" a few years back. I'm real happy with it, it doesn't have some of the features of more expensive ones, like a light, but it runs fine. The only drawback was when they say assembly required, they mean it! It arrived as a box of parts, it took my helper about 6 hours to assemble it
