I finally got my new Dell Pentium IV set up and running. Installed Photoshop 6, Illustrator 9, Omega, and some other stuff. Bigger, better monitor, This thing screams! I think I'll be up all night. Omega runs way faster and Photoshop filters process in a second. I'm thrilled!

Twice in one day, Chuck the Moon is on to you... (second post to Chuck for me today alone.)
Just a tip for the new computer people... before you retire the old ones make sure all your CD's are out of the drives. Why do I know this little tid bit... I replaced a CD in my monster last night and FORGOT to check the CD drive... plugged it BACK in and there's my Corel Clip Art CD! Doh!!!!

I'm running Windows ME. Haven't installed Corel but probably will. Windows ME is now approved by Gerber for Omega, and yes, I'm not letting go of this old computer until I'm absolutely sure everythings in order.

Put me in the "Ah I wish I had a new one too" catagory... then drop me right into dense corner!
Learnt somtun new today... like the Old Macs- you can open a disconnected CD drive with a paper clip! Look for the little tiny hole in the front of it, near the tray, and poke a big opened up paper clip into it and out pops the CD tray! (and the CD)
It's amazing- I didn't think of this before I hooked it back up to get out the Corel CD.
The not too quick on the draw side of the Moon
Happy file loading Chuck and Nettie!

Oh yeah- and Windows Me.... hates Corel 8. Just wanted to save you the fustration level of about oh 12!!! (on a scale from 1-10)
It seems to like Corel 10 though! Something about it being released "after" Windows Me was released... and other software dribbles and tid bits Heath was trying to tell me.

I ordered my new computer with 98 second addition. Heard "not so great" things about compatibility issues and bugs in the newer Windows editions. Also sticking with my older version of Gerber Graphix Advantage. I do most of my more complicated designing in Corel now, so have seen no need to switch to Omega.
I am holding on to the old computer, which is a PIII 300 Micron, and networking the two systems. Figured I could forego the zip drive, and the CD-RW in a second bay on the new Dell, and just use those tools from the Micron whenever needed. This way I can dupe music CD's on the old (since I do have a CD-RW in the 2nd bay there) and still keep working on the new, simultaneously! Did get the higher speed CD-RW in the Dell, so I can back-up faster.
Chuck ... did you get the deal with the $50. off and double the memory? That is the week I bought in, so I maxed on memory.
Haven't loaded Photoshop 6 yet. That program absolutely crawls on the Micron, so I'm looking forward to coasting better there.
Lot's to do yet till I'm completely up and running. Cleaning up the wiring act here while I'm at it, and building an additional seating section with a 2nd keyboard shelf onto my counter for the secondary system to accommodate another person!
When my new setup is completely up, and working flawlessly, I'll clean off and reformat the Micron, so it'll be more streamlined, and will work abit better than it does as overloaded as it is now.
Things are shaping up nicely so far, but alotta strategic planning sure goes into these big ticket decisions! (cha-ching) I've been careful to spend wisely, and have thus far been happy with my choices.
Since I'm not ever quick to upgrade, I get the eebie-jeebies during changes like this. Exciting, but abit nerve racking too.

It's funny how we all get excited about a new computer that will run as fast as our old one used to before crap software slowed it down. Windows ME is a good example. Load that junk and your married to your tech support line. I have had many computers over the last 15 years, and remember the good and bad about them, but am under no illusion that all new is "latest and greatest". I wish we could get sign customers to think this way, that they need a new sign every 2 or 3 years to keep up, (and get excited abuout it).

I gotta get away from this new computer and get my hands on a piece of slate and a chizel or something. As much as I'm enjoying this new toy, I'm glad there's more to my job than sitting at the computer all day.

COOOOL! I FEEL you joy! I've had my new computer for about a month. Gateway, Pentium 4, 20 gigs, cd-rom, and cd-romrw, and a fabulous sound system. Went from Signlab 3.2 to 5.0; Corel 3 to Corel 9, operating on Window ME(with NO problems). And I splurged on a 19" Mitsubishi flat screen. Gave my wife the "old" 17" MAG Innovision along with a new PDA. Now we are both happier than pigs in @#$*!
