It's with great regret that I pass this news from the grapevine... "I was just informed of Ed Roth, that he died this morning of an a heart attack. We will all miss him dearly. God Bless him. "

I was fortunate enough to see him at the Pinhead Meet in SF a few years back. Thanks Herb for talking me into going to that party- I was afraid to go (the old "I'm not worthy" fear), but I went, and I had fun, and I met "Big Daddy". I left the meet in awe... I had just met a "Star".
He was an impressive man, and one that will live for many years in our hearts and in our minds.

Ed Roth was a real influence in my life. As a 12 year old, I would blow up and trace his t-shirt designs from the pages of Car Craft Magazine. Who would have dreamed that I would one day become a sign painter, discover Letterheads and actually rub shoulders with people who knew "Big Daddy" personally.
I regret that I never got to meet my hero in real life. On our recent trip to California, I was fortunite to discover some Ed Roth treasure. Big Daddy will be missed.

A great and true friend who will be remembered in so many venues. Sadness for his passing but there has been and always will be joy for his having been here.

A man who influenced many, I remember watching him work at a car show in NYC many years ago. The influenece he had on building trend setting cars will probably never be matched, the airbrushed t-shirt industry might not be if it weren't for Big Daddy and the deck lid striping on Tom McMullins first flamed highboy will always be remembered

I knew his son in boot camp. I used to see Ed at Knott's Berry Farm years ago. He'll be missed, but I'm amazed his liver didn't give out long ago. he could sure toss 'em down.
Too bad.

Sometime back in the late sixties, when I lived in indianapolis, I met Ed, at a car show. He was hangin' with the "Angels" and apeared to be a mess. His booth featured a lot of chopper art witch I specialized in at the time and my older brother knew Ed, and introduced him to my portfolio. I was offered a job by Ed, and asked to move to L.A. I turned it down and that was the best mistake I did not make. Ed, had his famous Caddy hearse and Nash metropolitan combo in Indianapolis at the time. He would do wheelies in the parking lot with the chevy powered stock metro. It was an interesting time and lots of real wierd crap and bizarre scenes for that time period. Day Glo, was hot, music was pushing the envelope (thanks Jimi & Eric ) and the Rat Fink, could not be missed. I compare Ed Roth, to Jerry Garcia, because there was a faithful following, no matter what.

This is a paragraph from the last page of his book "Hot Rods by Ed Roth" published in '94. There is an article in the L.A. Times about his passing. According to the current Mrs. Roth Ed died Wednesday morning working on his newest car in his garage.
