Don't you just love it when someone comes waltzing into the shop and the first word out of their mouth is PRICE?
A lady from the City "Beautification" Committee, a division of the "(name of city) Redevelopment Agency" comes to the shop asking just that. They want a directory so that people can find their way around this mighty megalopolis of ours. She doesn't know what she wants but she wants a price. So I waste precious time looking for what I can only guess. It would be nice if they would let you know what they are expecting to spend. Does anyone know of a true wholesale source for outdoor directories?
We need one with changeable copy or namestrips and an area for a map. Some of them have an aluminum frame with glass or Lexan faces. Some are illuminated.
I found one company which sells a 22''x36'' non-illuminated with posts for $1053 up to a 36''x70'' for $1635. This is without any markup or freight.
I guess that we could make the customer a directory out of a piece of .080 aluminum with vinyl lettering. That seems to be the "Beautification" budget around here.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

LOL...next time they start with price, say ...$113,528.13...and when their jaw hits the floor, then you say "you mean you don'twany a 40 foot, illuminated, flashing one like the Stardust in Las Vegas?" At that point, they will either leave, shaking their head or say"All I want is...."

Nelson-Harkins were the ones who gave me the first quote. Their stuff looks first class though and seems to be well made. I'm sure their products are worth the price. Roth Signs had a considerably lower price and I'm exspecting a quote from Tablet and Ticket this morning.
