Is there such a thing as a clear reflective vinyl that can be applied over an existing colored vinyl or painted surface?
or maybe a paint for airbrushing onto a background surface?
We are doing some colored scotchprints and need to add reflective elements to parts of the text and we can't locate any colors to match that are reflective!
Any direction or help would be appreciated!!!

Sorry Robert, but you're not going to like my answer. There is no such article that I know of, at least the way you've requested such. You can order your graphic printed onto reflective material, but there's no way that I know of, to make an existing Scotchprint reflective.
Reflective material is basically ALL white, with a transparent varnish overtop of the white, which gives the "coloured effect". There are a very LIMITED number of transparent varnishes that will allow the light to pass through, be reflected back to the source by the glass beads, and maintain the colour of the varnish topcoat in the visible spectrum of light which the viewer "sees". Because of this limited selection of transparent topcoats, Reflective material is available only in a LIMITED number of colours.
I'd suggest that you pick one of the Standard colours, cut your text in that colour, and apply it right over top of your Scotchprint. If you're looking to match up a specific colour, it just isn't going to happen economically. The inks required to PROPERLY overprint the white reflective material are EXTREMELY expensive in the standard colours. To order a custom-mixed coloured ink, the cost would be up there in the Stratosphere. Call 3M up and ask them how much a gallon of this special ink costs...their answer will floor you! I wouldn't even venture a guess as to what they might want for a custom-mixed colour.
Your best bet is to use a Standard colour for your text, and apply right over top of the Scotchprinted Graphic.
Hope this helps.

Robert... You may be thinking of High Intensity reflectives mave by: StimsoniteCorp., 7542 N. Natchez Ave. Niles, IL, 60714 847 647 7717 Fax: 847 647 1205
You might also be thinking of overlay films called EC films, available in various colors. I have no idea what EC means, but when you lay the film over HI it looks just like Stimsoinite. hk

Robert, You can use Gerber transparent foils over reflective to get a few custom colors on the Edge. I've matched some graphics on an ambulance using the trans gold to replace one damaged letter instead of ordering 10 yards of the stuff.

Robert, I have had success by actually scuffing the reflective (lightly) and using transparent airbrush acrylics to spray a light, even coat and then clear with a UV clear. I almost always just use white refective and paint it whatever color I need. Not sure if this would applicable to your situation though. Hope this helps, R.T.

Don't know if it would apply in this case, but we have sprayed clear over an existing sign and covered with glass beads while wet. All colors behind are now reflective.
