"HELP" After doing sandblasted signs for a great length of time, I am looking for an alternative. Is there any way that I could use a router and chisel to achieve a better result. I mostly do glass carving (sandblasting) perhaps Pierre can guide me through the finer points of "creating a masterpiece" Would this clear coat of your's last on an interior/exterior glass sign?
PS:Great article on carving, appreciate the input.......saw your pic......nice work behind your smiling face.....lol

Yep.........I'll be posting demonstrative pics tomorrow or tuesday. This is very easy stuff, just looks harder than it is. The end result of the most basic approach is very cool. And.........yes, Pelucid works on virtually any substrata or overcoat. Sets up rock hard and flexible. Sound like a contradiction? It isn't. The properly applied finish coat stops impact chipping but will flex with an expanding surface. I'll elaborate with the "step by step" later. Thanks.......... :^)

Hey Hitest, how 'bout setting up a signature profile so we can know a little more about you. (like where you're from and whether you have a 'real' name).
In answer to your question, there have been volumes written about hand carving on this board and numerous trade articles and books. It isn't something you can get properly from a few replies here. The very best advice I can give you is to participate in a hands-on demonstration. The best place to do that is at a Letterheads meet like the one coming up in Connecticut in June which will be stressing hand carving techniques. Another alternative is attending one of the carving clinics taught by Jay Cooke, Paul White and others.
One thing I can tell for for sure - it ain't simple. Thats why there isn't a simple answer to your question. It's like hand lettering in the respect that even with proper instruction it could take hundreds of hours of practice to become proficient at, and develop a technique that suits you best. Hope to see you at a meet soon!
