I'm cutting some reflective vinyl for 2 National Car Rental box trucks, I've done lots of them in green, just upsold them to reflective. A sandblasted, gilded sign for a lawyer, some Edge prints for another sign shop, finishing up a design for a sign for a church that was just renovated. By the way, this church has three buildings they rebuilt just like the originals from the 1920's, all covered with clear heart redwood. They said their contractor has a connection with someone in northern California. I gotta talk to that guy. Their new sign will be redwood. This year is going well.

I have been so busy since my "Odd" post that I havent had the time to check out the BB so much.
We got a rush job yesterday lunchtime to make 7 red banners 5ft x 15ft plus a 20ft x 3ft aluminium sign to be reday by luncctime today so last night was very late as was this morning early! But I did them in time, its now 5.35pm and i have a small sign to finish before going home!!
I must say that I have never had such a good start to a year, I have been flat out here since new year.
Hope you are all enjoying yourselves, and that the work is pouring in, its the second day of spring here although its still cold we have the same amount of light, during the day than we have darkness now which is positive, because in a couple of months it will hardly get dark here, and that's something I really look forward too!

I'm currently sitting in front of the bb sipping my first coffee before today's big rah rah. My office is 1/2 empty, it feels like I don't even work here anymore, yet I'm very booked up. I'm moving this weekend, so it's been hectic trying to juggle everything.
After my coffee, (it turned out soooo good today, you know days like those), I'm heading off to letter up a 1 ton truck, should take me most of the day I presume. After that, cut for two firetrucks due this week however I'm pushing it to next week. Postponed my dentist appt, got better things to do. LOL!

Just checking in on this post and grabbing some lunch. It's a good day here. Could step it up a notch in the way of fabrication, but getting stuff done non the less.
I'm in the midst of my usual juggling act.
I met with my install contractor this morning about afew jobs we have in the works. Obtained from him an engineer drawing for a custom 2'x8' sign I'll be pulling the permit for tomorrow. We also discussed the metal mounting design for it. While he was here I produced a layout and quote for him on a 7'x7' D/F illuminated sign. He gave me the "go-ahead" on it, so the vinyl cutting for that will commence tomorrow when the material comes in. I finished applying a logo on a construction permit box and also dealt with a mess of phone calls. Last week I got the final approval for a logo I design, along with an entire identity package. (biz cards, letterhead, envelope, price tags and shopping bags) That job goes to print today, so I await the call to go down and give it a press check first.
While out on that run, I'll shoot over and do a colour check on a building to establish the background colour tones for it. I'll be doing a sign system for them ... 2) 8'x12' signs and 2)4'x8's. Also on that run I'll swing by another apartment complex that called today wanting 45 address signs. Want to see what I'm to be matching there before giving a price. Luckily these two places are in neighbouring locations.
In the meantime I've got some proposals to write today for a couple jobs. One being 2 - 5'x10' sandblasted HDU signs for a travel agency for which my sketch has been approved already. The other being an additional custom wood sign for a French Restaurant, ... a dupe of one I did last year for them, to be put in a secondary location. If I can fit it in timewise today, I'll do some sketches of a few jobs pending, layouts for another identity pkg, and also fiddle with a logo design I need to get started on.
Amy, we are in a cold front here! Looks gloomy too, but no rain yet. Had some downpours the last two days tho.
As far as how I'm feeling today. Abit overwhelmed, ... relieved to be busy, ... energetic and happy about the creative levels in shop right now. I've got that familiar "trying to stay afloat" feeling, but I'm sparked by some of what I've been able to accomplish lately. Hope I can keep up the momentum!
Great to see what some of you are up to, and your feelings about the work. Thanks for the peek into your day. Nettie

I'm working on a second dimensional sign for the tavern that caused me so much grief when their interior decorator 'distressed and aged' the first sign to what I consider a monochromatic mess. I just don't get it! They say they're getting nothing but compliments on it but then they are influential business people with plenty of brown-nosers. I'm going to have Cal Trauter add his touch to this sign and hopefully the tavern owners will appreciate a real professional job and get us to repaint the monstrosity already up. They've also ordered several more signs which will keep me going through next week.
Happy Signing.....Marty

The roof at the shop is leaking, the bay door is stuck open (waiting for the garage door people 4 hrs now) the new computer just got returned for putting the wrong operating system on it and the good ole'4B is skipping cuts! So I would say today is a bad day I am just trying to keep the shop running. Hopefully I will work tomarrow. Thanks for letting me vent! Raychel Lexington signs

Weeeellll this is a fun post! This morning (6:00) I went out and installed some banners, drop off some digital prints, made a couple of sales calls, and lettered a small truck. Got back to the shop and am printing off some large prints, working on a couple of sandblasted signs. Still have to get some bids out and a few designs to do. If I ever get some spare time I will redo my web site, finally letter my truck and redo my van with a partial wrap. OK Im dreaming but theres always tomorrow!

Here today we working a 5'x10 and a 4'x8' plywood sign to do for a new java hut, then we gotta get going on (4) 4'x4' and (3) 3'x7' banners for one of the local t.v. stations. Once those are done I have to get a couple of screens ready for 200 2 color constuction site signs that I promised the guy by Friday (I think I may be late on these!), then on my way home I have to stop by the local Peterbilt dealer and letter a semi for a customer, the job goes quick, but boy do I hate working in the shop at the truck dealers. It seems like they are always crash banging around me which is a major distraction!

Usually I read the BB over my morning cup of coffee. But here it is 4:45 and I'm just getting to it.
Started the day with a dentist appointment. Then off to see a customer. He ordered 20 small sandblasted signs for a golf course. sweet! Dropped off a banner. Back to the shop, airbrushed swooshes for 3 auto repair signs. Realtor stopped in for me to reletter 20 real estate signs. Cut the vinyl for 2 pan faces to be installed tomorrow. The rest of the day was spent on sketches. Truck lettering for a tree service. Eight new signs for hospital buildings. Lay out the 20 sandblasted signs. Truck lettering for an excavator. Small beauty shop sign.
Almost all this came in after our temps finally broke the freezing mark.
Ahh spring!

Today started off with a two color pinstripe down one side of a Cadillac, the rest of the day was spent lettering a sprint car and an extra wing. Tomorrow the Freightliner dealer has "some" trucks he wants done, this could be two or it might be six, ya never know
Oh yea, Greg, if working at the dealer bothers you, don't even think about going to a truck body shop. When they start riviting.............well let's say it's more than a little annoying. I guess I've been doing them waaaaaaaay too long, even that doesn't bother me anymore.

Fun post to see what all our friends are up to in the same time period. Even though we sort of all do the same thing it shows the variety of jobs we encounter!
I got to spend the day at Giggle Ridge with my son-in-law, daughter and dear wife Janis. We are mostly our own client these days. And today was a fun one.
The sun was shining and it was mostly warm. We are building a bunch of new features and today was the first cement day this year. After a bunch of days living under my welding helmet it was a nice change. So we got to learn to apply the mud again (kinda rusty) and then we spent the afternoon carving it to the final shapes. We were making wood grained benches and small signs, The good thing is this year we are a very small crew (no stress) and no rush to things. We had some good chats as we worked together.
We also got to sit in the sun on some untimed coffee breaks and dream of the next big project we will undertake here at the Ridge. It is gonna be the best yet!
Hope everybody else had a chance to relax as well as do what they love!

A Landscaper I've been trolling for over a year just ordered 6 4 x 8 alum. panels with 6 color airbrushed pictorals for his fleet. did those yesterday.
Today did 6 matching magnetics and the 6 24 x 24 rear panels for the stake beds.
Tomorrow I finish the two 7 x 12 landscape trailers. He ordered these monday, everything had to be finished by sat am 'cause he's delivering 9,000 bags of mulch for the Boy Scouts all over town and realized he wanted the advertising.
Thank God it rained. I was supposed to paint and install a sandblated sign, and letter a 22' furniture van this week.
I'm sleep deprived and could use a break, but theres nothing like a 5 figure deposit in 6 days. =)

There was a design I did that I sent to a friend from this site. She added some of her touch to it. I added more. We play this way sometimes. Well, I sold the job and got to letter this dump truck. Just after finishing it, the table saw motor was heating up and the saw was binding, according to an employee. I spend several hours pulling the motor apart and re aligning everything to get the saw back to productive. It sure feels good to fix stuff rather than replace it.I've had this saw 25 years now. Then came the stream of visitors. The last one had lost his son to a drinking person in a vehicle. We spent hours sharing and crying and finding the real values in life and reasons to go on. That level of relating will outlast any paint made by today's standards.

While you were all working on your projects yesterday ( March 21 ) I drove down to Atlanta Illinois to check about the progress of the "RT. 66" walldog meet.
Next drove over to Clinton Illinois to present the final layout for a double face indentification sign.
Then drove on down to Decatur Illinois to see how the cathedral decorating was coming ( my part is all finished, but I am keeping tabs on the progress for an update / follow up article for SBI magazine. Went to lunch with a "letterhead" in Decatur and he bought my lunch!
Got back home, 3:00 p.m., layed down in the easy chair and fell asleep. I guess I pretty much blew the whole day. Today I got to work double hard. Huge Glass mirror for a bar, a Banner for State Farm, 2 for sale by owner signs, order material for 2 new projects, letter store front windows, box truck and....I can see right now it ain't all gonna happen today!

What an interesting slice of our collective activities that compose this industry. So many people doing so many different things simultaneously. Kind of like a "48 Hours in the Sign Business".
Today so far I met with a local women's softball coach to take orders for 50 PVC outfield fence signs. (Not our usual kind of work, but lucrative in this case - and good PR). I visited the P.O. and deposited a nice fat check for five carved signs we had shipped out a couple weeks ago across the country. This afternoon we're gluing up HDU for a 20' wide carved quarterboard. Then I'm going to knock off and take my family out to dinner to celebrate getting that check.

Started this morning by finally finishing the glass gilding job I started two weeks ago(there were problems, and it turned into a marathon job, but it's finally done - ee-hah!) Then back to shop to coat out three 2x8's with maroon for a Bass shoe outlet store - these have to be done and installed tomorrow (Friday). Epoxied a half-inch lusterboard backing to a 2'x5' carved sign, with 8" bolts sticking out the back which will go through holes in 6" granite posts.
A customer stopped in to pick up a small repainted sign. I used hardener in the maroon on the Bass signs and one of them is dry enough to letter - four letters, 16" high, 1-shot imitation gold. It's 3pm and that should about do for my day.
