Hey Alan, do you remember when some person dropped hot coffee from Mickey D's drive-thru on their lap and sued.
Well I think you have a great suit that should pressed by a New Yawk ball bustin jewish attorney.

Maybe by then the company will give better instructions.........

Alan...Thanks for the info...Glad yer only just sore and not seriously injured.

If you go back to your previous post and look at Pierre's reply he mentions a rotation speed of 4000 RPM. I know that my angle grinder runs around 12,000 RPM. Maybe the DeWalt was too fast for the eraser? Did it's packaging come with any advice about ideal speeds?

Dave,
Actually it's a variable speed grinder and was set @ 2000 to see how that worked top speed was 6000 I frown to think what that kind of RPM's would have produced, hell I probably wouldn't be writing this letter.

Aladd, My MAN!!! 4,000 RPM! Not more! Not less! 4,000 RPM. We've used these things for three years now, never an incident, but we are VERY careful to follow the MFG's specific statement....................4,000 RPM. Glad you're ok, mon! Bad schtuff. Did you call Astra to report the incident?

I forgot to add............Roger, do you have stock in a heat lamp company? Heat lamps work in limited applications and limited circumstances. We do this every day of the week for a living. The body shops send their crap jobs to us for solutions.......INCLUDING the messed up ones they tried with heat lamps. After baking the whole mess on hard and tight, that is.

Da lets see, maybe 23 years a taking em off(without sending anything anywhere).
But hey back in 60s and 70s we didn't have any info., we just found what worked fast.
You see body shop people have to perform acording to labor times (quoted by some engineer in detroit workin with brand new vehicles).
Thats my story, an I'm stickin to it !!!!!!!

Da, well, um, gee, Roger! I won't argue that it has it's place. HOWEVER......even though I was working in the same era as you, adhesives have CHANGED since we were kids, Roger. They simply AREN'T the same formulations! We use everything possible in our studio to speed up removals. We have half a dozen approaches for different adhesive/film combinations, INCLUDING heat lamps. Other methods work more often and usually faster than heat lamps. I'm going to send you a tanning bed made of 72 heat lamps. I think you might need a "good tanning!"

One point many may be missing:
Rotational speed does not equal actual speed of the edge of the disk.

a 12" disk has a circumference of aprox 37.68 inches and at 4000 rpm the edge moves at 12,560 feet per minute

a 6" disk has a circumference of aprox 18.84" inches and at 4000 rpm the edge moves at 6,250 feet per minute

might make a big difference!

Should take about 4,000 rpm's unless there's traffic.
