Following up on Rick Sacks' recent pricing exercises, here is a fairly simple one.

4'x4' aluminum panel, prepainted with a baked enamel white finish. The wedgewood blue panel was sprayed with acrylic enamel. All the lettering and graphics are done in 2 mil cast vinyl. All logos were already on my system from previous jobs. An existing panel was supplied to me so that I could take measurements and duplicate it. (the space at the bottom is for the addition of a "dealer's name")

In other words, basically no "layout" time.

These folks ordered 10 panels, all identical. I store the panels for a couple of months and add the individual dealer's names as they require them.

What would you expect to charge for doing a job like this (10 panels total)?

Assuming .080 panels, I'd go somewhere in the $110-$125 range.

I would propose $112.50 with .063 aluminum.

Breakdown:
16' x $5.00= 80.00
4'x4' .063 aluminum= $30.00 + 50% = 45.00
TOTAL: = 125.00
10% discount for an order of 10= -$12.50
GRAND TOTAL: $112.50

Okay, somebody tell me if I'm going about this right!

Thanks!

I figured this using Estimate.

Materials and Overhead: $862.00
Profits: $1012.80
Total Selling Price $1874.80

I discounted the job by $106.54 for the qty. ordered. The materials would be .080 aluminum and premium 2 mil vinyl and the background would be one shot applied with a roller.

60 each for the aluminum pre cut.
600
4 screens and artwork(I maintain my own screens, not the customers property) 400 dollars(100 each)4 set ups 40 dollars
40 prints at 5 each 200, overhead 40%
of 1240 - 496 = 1736 or 173.60 each plus tax.
US Dollars.
Bill
ps, if done in the summer, I can offer baked on enamel for 20 each extra, just set them in the sun for a day LOL

Wouldnt do it in ally, I'd be doing it on colourbond coated sheetmetal which runs out @ AU$40.00/8x4sheet.
My Guesstimate (cos I dont have my database here) is AU$1740.00.
AU$ is presently hovering around .50 or so US$.

When I was quoting, this is what I would have done.
$196.80 each with quantity discount of about 10%. All vinyl, no paint. I didn't have the room to easily paint that many that size.
Materials - 650 * 1.6= $1040
labor - 12 hrs. 600
profit - 20% 328
-----------------------------
Total (plus tax) 1968.00

4'x4' aluminum 3 colors be about $192 american, I would spray the panels all at once, and would take 5-10% off on the discount. I don't like quanity discount because I make each sign idividually so, every one is the same amount of work, so why should I charge less for more work?

Well folks...It looks like I am the winner! LOL

I originally quoted this job back in November and it was based on 6 panels. At that time I quoted $335 Cdn. ($220 U.S.) I never heard back from them until February, and had thought that they had gone elsewhere. Not so, they just had to wait for the next "budget year". At that time they asked if I could still hold the price of the original quote if they upped the order to 10 panels. I agreed to do that and to also add the individual dealer names at no cost.

Price breakdown is as follows:
panels... $830 ($548 US)
paint and hardener.... $70 ($46 US)
vinyl.... 20 yards of 24" at $10/yd.. $200 ($132 US)
labour and PROFIT.. $2250 ($1485 US)

Opps..forgot to mention time involved in the manufacture of the signs.

About 6 hrs masking, sanding, painting, unmasking because I had to do the painting in three shifts because of lack of space.
About 8 hrs cutting, weeding and masking.
About 5 hrs applying the graphics.
Total time involved 19-20 hrs.

Dave, I'd say you did o.k. on the job but am I ever amazed at how the prices differ from shop to shop! I'm not sure how much the price would change using .063 aluminum since all I can get here locally is .040 and .080. I have priced out having aluminum shipped in and the freight is a killer!

Actually, there are more than 3 colors involved folks. I guess it is tough to distinguish from the picture.

There is the painted wedgewood blue panel plus the following vinyl colors:

perfect match red
bright orange
intense orange
black
white
traffic grey

So a total of 7 different colors. That is why screening for only the 6 panels that were originaly quoted was kind of impractical.
