i used to work for social services (welfare)in canada....man, some people. i saw a guy with a broken leg, leave the office and when he got to his (nice) car, he opened the trunk, took off his cast and threw it and the crutches in, walked around and drove away. nobody cared. he still got welfare.
or, how 'bout the time they made me write a voucher for a carton of cigarettes. i almost quit that day, i was so mad!!!!
some people truly need help, but, too many abuse it, and, the people who work for the agency don't care. they're so overworked anyway.
i (cuz i'm a bitch) wouldn't take someone's food vouchers if it was for a non-essential item....but, again, i'm a bitch and a bit jaded with those folks

I'm all in favor of giving a hand to people in their time of need, but I have little sympathy for those that abuse the system.
A long time ago when I was in high school and working at a large supermarket, I packed groceries for a lady that paid for it all with food stamps. There were 24 bags of groceries, included in those bags were some fresh baked pies and cakes, handfuls of steaks, 4 full uncut tenderloins and 12 LOBSTER tails. Most working people at the time couldn't afford to eat like that. Oh yes, and when I carried out the groceries, guess what kind of car I loaded them into? You guessed it, a one year old Cadillac! I guess they saved so much grocery money they could afford the Cadillac.
