OK everyone, I know that sign designers have the best eye for color and design. Take a look at all the CorelWorld designs and have a chance to vote. http://www.altman.com/corelworld/contest.htm
Have a look at them but be honest in your voting. The brochure has to give you the feel to come to Boston for the CorelWorld Conference.

Steve, I am sure all you have to do is ask them. I have had no problems getting software to give away at Boise last year. They won't do nothing unless you ask!! PLEASE vote for the best one, not because you know me!!!

But I think your design is the best, at least from a sign designer's point of view. I like a strong, bold layout that ensures the message is remembered.
Steve Parrish once commented that many of today's layout artists are learning the tricks before the trade. As a result, we see elaborate graphics and trick lettering, but weak layouts.

Hi Doug, you should place well in the competition. Good luck. If you do end up coming to Boston, give Dick and I a shout. We could show you a bit of Cape Cod.
The contest runs the gamut from excellent to laughable. I thought some of those entries were awful. Are these supposed to be pros? The ones that stand out for me are:
#3, Soar High - I like the Olympic treatment on the CorelWorld logo. Very creative, but the two erroneous typefaces at the bottom and the tight bottom margin ruin it.
#14, Skyline - Great concept and high technical difficulty - probable winner. Only one thing throws me off is the 1 in 2001 is badly spaced too far right. An otherwise great piece.
#15, Marathon theme - Nice Doug. I don't care for the yellow glow around the circle is my only objection.
#8, Big white moon - As simple as it is, I think this would get my vote - based purely on layout. It's probably way to plain to fare well in the voting, but it is super strong. Relies on no gimicks other than it's shapes and colors to get noticed.
What's your LEAST favorite? Well, 12 and 13 were certainly weak, but 16 has to get the all time stinker award. What the hell is that, a flame shooting out of an exacto swivel knife?? And that has WHAT to do woth Corel?? I especially like the way they demonstrated how to sent the eye in four opposite directions by placing little things up in each corner. If I had to guess I'd say those folks are in the quick-printing business, business cards in an hour, $12 per 1000 and worth every penny.
I think Doug's was the best! He tied in the Boston marathon nicely with the event, while some others are still into the outer space stuff....(so 90's ) and sends no message.
Great work Doug!
