I got a sandblasted sign job to do, got the stuff, all except the epoxy for laminating. I called the west systems people, but they dont ship c.o.d. Any other 2 part epoxy that will work? Or where else can I get the west systems?

John, West System epoxy is big with boat builders. If you call them they will tell you the closest distributor in your area.
I used it for quite a few years but now I only use Ultra Bond. You can buy it in quarts, its alot cheaper than epoxy, dries faster, easier to use since its a one part glue, and I've never had a failure with it. The trick is to rough up your glue joint a little before gluing. I slap a wire wheel into a drill and run it up & down both edges to rough up the joint faces. Use normal clamping pressure, just enough to get some squeeze out.

John, I get my Westsystem from Boatworld. I'ts roughly $100 for a gallon of resin, quart of hardener and a can of the filler. I love it.
Maybe it's the heat and humidity down here in Florida, but the Ultrabond never worked well for us. We have used it and Resorcinol in the past. Resorcinol is pretty good stuff but we had failures with the Ultrabond. Like Dave says, we roughed up the boards before joining. We also always make sure the joint is dust free before joining.
Make sure you don't clamp too hard. Just enough to have squeeze-out.

A lot of sign supply distributors now carry West Systems. I get mine from Midwest (midwestsignsupply.com) and know PSS has it too. If you need to know of a distributor near you, send an e-mail to tunated2@sunet.net and he can tell you.

Wayne, thats interesting that you had failure with Ultra Bond. I've had failure with resorcinol here in our colder climate. A very very humid climate may be the problem with Ultra Bond.
John, I got your e mail and will give you a call. Now that you've told me it's HDU you are going to glue, I would go with one of the polyurethane glues like Gorilla glue.

Dave, I like the Gorilla glue for HDU too. I had one of my HDU signs to get run over by a bulldozer. It snapped off both posts and broke the sign in half but the backboards, glued on with Gorilla glue, remained just like they were welded on. Good stuff.
Ain't weather and Humidity a pain? It gets super hot down here as the humidity escalates and it makes for a miserable mix. Love this time of year, though. Only wish it stayed this way.
