Hmmmm... and what will they do about the states with tollways?
Ever drive through Oklahoma? They have tollways and they are in like-new condition..
Arizona has really good roads too. It's almost like they anticipate growth and build roadways to accommodate it before it happens.. hmm... but that's what they're supposed to do anyways, right? =)

I saw a program on cable one day where they developed two lanes of a highway using ground up tires in the asphalt mixture. The two lanes with the ground tires was holding up years longer than the other two lanes that were made of the normal asphalt mixture. The government will not allow the use of the recycled tires for some reason. We have to pay to dispose of our old tires when there are ways of building good, long lasting roads with them.

Will all the VERY RICH please step forward !!
Oh so sorry I thought this was another joke regarding politicians and how they spend our money. But to tell you the truth I really don't care what it costs as long as I get to drive......
Lets talk about the politicians who have their own retirement plan at over 100 K per year or the travelling expense plan they just voted for themselves with your money. What are you going to do about it?

Bushes new tax cuts - hmmmmm . . . not fer us, that's fer sure. Tax cuts for those making over $100,000/yr. Is that you? Is that me? Is that the average American? Don't think so. OPEC oil being cut back . . . hmmm . . . rising gas prices for us. Just wait until summer comes along when everyone goes on vacation . . . yep, gas prices will skyrocket again. The ONLY way to fight back is to write your conressman, representative, etc. I've heard too many complain, but take no action to resolve. I am a strong advocate of letting your voice be heard. Too many Americans complain, but very few complain to the right people. Let your gov't know how you feel. You might feel your voice doesn't matter, but if enough people voice their opinion, it will matter! If you don't like something, call your gov't representatives. Telling us only get's if off yer chest. But it will still remain a problem unless we all call, write, e-mail, and tell them we don't like it! It can work, it has worked, it will work. Bomba-Dear PS - need help writing a good letter to the gov't? I've got lot's of practice - give me a holler & I'll make you sound good!

I'm for the tax cuts. Anyone who pays taxes should get a tax cuts. I have a problem with any thing that pits "US against THEM", properly known as "class warfare." Anyone read JFK's December 14, 1962 speach to the Economic Club of New York. www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/074/oped/JFK_would_like_Bush_s_tax_cut+.shtml
As for OPEC, I remember the 70's. Today we import twice as much oil, in terms of percentage, than we did 25 years ago. If you don't like the price of gas today, then its time we stop special interest groups like the Sierra Club from dictating policies to the EPA. Secondly, inspite of recent price increases for gas over the last 12 months, we are still paying less for gas today than we were 20 years ago in inflation adjusted dollars. In 1980, I was paying $1.25 for gallon of gas. Today, I'm paying about $1.45. If you take the $1.25 from 1980 and adjust it to today's dollar, gas would be selling for $2.86 a gallon. Lets not forget that federal and state fuel taxes have about doubled in most states over the last 20 years as well.
If you want to fight, I think that's great. Only, lets do it by being well informed first and not be ruled by emotions or the "spin" that comes out of the media and special interest groups.
Don't take my word for anything. Take the time and do the research yourself. You might be surprised at what you find out.

Seems to me, any gasoline tax is a tax on the milage you drive. And a Bigger tax on gas guzzlers. The 70's Oil Crisis helped to reduce the size of cars and increase mileage (and taxes)for a year or two, it filters through the economy, everything goes up accordingly and we all buy suv's or 6door pickups. We need to learn to truly conserve. I am not a supporter of the sierra club but I do support the Boy Scouts, They have taught me conservation since I was 14.

I have to agree with the guys who say to conserve. I think that says more than complaining sometimes. I used to drive into town everyday to get my mail at the post office, it gave me a break from work for 20 minutes. When the gas prices went up, I quit going everyday and go once or twice a week now. Sometimes longer.
I have been reading the two books the Governor of Minnesota has out. Wow, I use to have a bad attitude towards him, now I see he thinks much like the rest of us. Wish we had more down to earth politicians. The people we have in office are mostly career politicians and aren't going to listen to us. They can't relate with us. They have never stuggled to get by, they come from wealthy families. They are going to please the people that can afford to back them in the next election.
I think the people in Minnesota made a bold statement when they past up two career politicians and elected a Govenor from the private sector. I don't know how he is doing as a govenor, but his books tells us to each take some responsibility for what's going on with our government and our taxes.
