i picked up a past issue of airbrush action and found a how-to of fabulous flames. realistic ones.
i saw, and loved, flames like this posted on the board in the past couple months but don't know if the how-to was shown. if anyone's interested it's the October 2000 issue of airbrush action.
i tried to find the original post with the pic, but, couldn't. the how-to i have is by mike lavallee.

Gail, you're just trying to light up the post icon.
If that wasn't the case, you would've asked if anybody DIDN'T want to see it...which would have resulted in a huge goose egg next to your post heading.

am i allowed to post a how-to article? i could put it on a web page, if that's not frowned upon, by, say, airbrush action or mike lavallee.

This "how to" needs to be seen, and explained as in video form(that mike is at least thinking about)Even watching him do it once in Munroe La. wasn't quite enough to get the proper feel for it.Not sure if still photos will help that much.

I'd like to see a how-to Gail.

Gail, I read the article in ABA it very nice. Like the Duck said, it needs a video how-to. Mike is way out in front of me. I was wearing out the pages turning back and forth. It seems every mag has a flame how to lately, this was refreshingly different.
I called up Airbrush Action, told them I wanted some back issues of their magazines (the above mentioned issue) AND a subscription and told them WHERE I found their magazine... HERE ...and they didn't seem to care!
Now, my buddy Janet works at an "800 company"- a place that answers calls for 800#'s, and I know that she answers 800#'s for many "real companies" and just processes their orders for these "real companies". She does not work for the "real company" directly...
Here's my profound thought for the day- if Airbrush Action has hired one of these companies to answer their phones for them and process their orders- these people answering the phone really AREN'T going to care where I found the magazine... they just want to process the order and answer the next call. BUT... telling Airbrush Action directly may have some weight to it. They want more orders for thier magazine, not just another "call in" like the 800# company, right?
...but, if I'm completely wrong, and Airbrush Action is answering their own 800# then it's time for a round of coffee for those girls! But ANYway...
This post sold their magazine. (for me)
So I'm gonna send it to them (printed) and let them know about this wonderful place... They can market their product here and they get to interact with us too!
Anyone else know of some products mentioned here that's "sold" because of this Board?

stefenie...aa is a great magazine. i started my airbrushing career by back ordering almost 5 years worth of back issues in 1990. then i did the how-to's for a while and i had my first airbrush shop within a couple months...
all i see around here is the german airbrush art + action, which is good too. i like airbrush action better though because i think they have a wider variety of art and the advertising is more local. when i see something i want, it's not very practical to get it from germany
what have i bought specifically because of this board. a boston stand up stapler (excellent), pelucid (still testing, good, but maybe not right for me), signcraft magazine ( ), and hopefully soon, a book called "The Art of Faux Finishing"...
Other things, too, but, that's what came to mind first....

Thanks Gail for responding to my post... after I posted it I dropped myself into the "you're an idiot" catagory and thought to myself- oh that was stupid... I get passionate over the strangest things sometimes, but ya know (with a little support coming from you) I don't feel so dumb.
We do buy a lot of stuff based on what we hear here. Maybe we should do a "What have you bought lately?" thread like we do the "How to's" or the "Tool Times" threads... just a thought. They won't know if we don't tell them, huh?

Hey Gailforce both those books are my monthly bibles for info. I saw the article and had a customer come in and wanted skulls and flames on a motorcycle tank. I tried it in the same fashion as the article and work out very nice!
I got you E-Mail and will send some pictures back over the weekend.

i like the what have you bought idea stefenie...sometimes, around here it seems you have to be careful about naming brand names, but, what can you do?......
stupid things like the stapler. i kept saying, "i gotta get a stapler", "i gotta get a stapler"....and one day someone on the board said the best one they ever bought was this boston stand-up....so, i finally bought one just cuz someone jogged my mind AND gave me the name of an affordable, good product.
also,
i'm going to spend sometime this weekend getting this how-to on a website and posting it. why? because i think the reality of the flames caught alot of people's eye.
so, next post...."some of my favorite things"
steven, get those pics.....gotta see some other canadian airhead at work
Well I don't see any reason why that article couldn't be posted here. I did a video on the realistic fire technique but wasn't happy with the quality I got with my camera. I've since showcased 2 fire jobs at the 2nd Annual Roadster show in Seattle and sold a pile of new jobs doing it. I'll be doing a professional video on fire on a 32 5 window coupe ( RED ) soon. I expect it'll be available in the fall. Mike
