Dear Colleagues,
HELP!!!
My OMEGA program keeps crashing. I'm running the latest version of OMEGA on Windows 98 with 128K.

Whats the deal here? Is anyone else having problems? The only thing I haven't tried is blowing everything away and re-installing the O/S.

Does anyone recommend another O/S? Does anyone have OMEGA runnig with Windows 2000?

Please help me------I have Gerber Mental Breakdown!!! Their helpdesk calls you back 3 days later and no one seems to care that you just spent a crap load of money on software that is riddled with bugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anthony

Anthony,

I used to have that problem all the time when I first got Omega. Now it happens only once or twice here and there. It wouldn't hurt you to be running 256meg of ram. Also check and see if there are any programs running in the background, Do this by tapping ctrl + alt + del just once. You should see all the programs running in the background.

If your system resources are low then you may need to eliminate some of the unecessary programs.

It shouldn't be related to your operating system, unless your operating system crashes without Omega.

Good Luck

Hi Anthony,

Currently, Omega has been qualified to run on Windows 95 & 98. However, I am running one of my 3 copies of Omega on Windows Me with no problems. Omega is NOT qualified to run on Windows 2000 or Windows NT for the moment.

Before I can help, I need more information.....

1) What brand and model of computer are you running?

2) Which Omega are you running - CP, CS, or CL?

3) Which version of Omega are you currently running - 1.51, 1.52, 1.53 or 1.54?

4) Did you have Gerber Graphics Advantage installed previously?

5) What other programs do you currently have installed in your computer - Corel, Illustrator, Pagemaker?

6) Are you using an Edge? If so, which one - Edge or Edge-2?

7) What error message are you getting?

8) Is the problem repeatable by doing the exact same steps every time?

9) If you press Ctrl+Alt+Del one time, the "Close Window" window should come up. How many programs does it say are running?

This should do for starters......

My responses is indicated below:

1) What brand and model of computer are you running? ATHLON 500MGZ Custom Built PC

2) Which Omega are you running - CP, CS, or CL? CP

3) Which version of Omega are you currently running - 1.51, 1.52, 1.53 or 1.54? Version 1.54

4) Did you have Gerber Graphics Advantage installed previously?
Yes, but we blew it away and re-installed everything.

5) What other programs do you currently have installed in your computer - Corel, Illustrator, Pagemaker?

Only Photoshop 6.0

6) Are you using an Edge? If so, which one - Edge or Edge-2?
EDGE 2 (also, is there any memory add-on components for the EDGE2? to help with onboard processing)

7) What error message are you getting?
Mostly "Illegal Operation" and "An Error has Occurred" and oh yes, the occassional "Fatal Exception Error" These are intermittent errors and take place in almost every component of OMEGA. There seems to be no direct pattern. It happens when I have only OMEGA open or OMEGA and another program. I never open up more than 4 apps at a time anyway.

8) Is the problem repeatable by doing the exact same steps every time? No patttern.

OK,

Here's what I want you to try.

1) Uninstall Omega

2) Go to "Start/Run and type "regedit". No quotation marks. Under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / software", delete the folder marked "Gerber Scientific Products."

3) Close out of RegEdit and reboot the computer.

4) Run Scandisk and then Defrag the hard-drive.

5) Load the Omega CD in and run the "GSPCleanSys.Exe" program which is under the "Misc" folder.

6) Install Omega.

7) Add another 128meg ram chip.

Refering to #9, see if there are any unnecessary programs running in the background. If so, go to "start/run/msconfig" and click on the StartUp tab. See if there are any programs running in the background that you can turn off.

8) Reboot

Try that and let me know how it goes.

Just to keep everybody updated, Gerber announced this past Wednesday, March 14th, that OMEGA 1.54 is now fully compatible with Windows ME. Unfortunately Anthony, Windows 2000 is still not a supported platform. Expect an announcement in the future once testing is completed.

I've had Omega running on a Win2K system for about a year now - without *too much* problems..

Ver. 1.54 (which I finally received last week!) is a big improvement aswell... and it now seems real stable.

Ed,

Omega has not been qualified for Windows 2000 yet. Just thought you should know.

I know Glenn..

But it sure works nicely on a Win2K system.. sooo stable.

I use Photoshop and Illustrator aswell, so Win98 was'nt really an option to me - as it handles it resources so poorly.

Hi Ed,

Are you running 2000 Pro?

The system I just ordered has that o/s and I only had 2000 Pro or NT to choose from.
Unfotunately, my GA6.2 isn't gonna run on this system so i'll be forced (gulp) to pony up to Omega.

Gerber has a lot of nads to put out buggy software that won't run on all of the mainstream operating systems.

I was just informed that Gerber has now officially stamped OMEGA as approved for the Microsoft Windows 2000 Operating System. I know some of you have been doing it already with out fail, but now its “official” (i.e. tech support will now talk on the record). Something was mentioned about having the latest USB driver on your system if that is what security device being used.
