I am trying to add meta tags to the head sections of my pages in Dreamweaver. The meta tag info boxes that I fill out for the pages do not seem to add it to the page I am working on. Also on the index frameset. It won't allow me to use the meta tag dialog box as it is grayed out in the menu.....The index is the primary place for them...Will copy and paste work, if I can get them written from another source? I pretty much know where they go, but don't know the html language well enough to author them..Thanks for any assistance. Jack

1. Click the arrow at the top of the Objects pallette. This will reveal a small pop down menu which contains the following options: Characters, Common, Forms, Frames, Head and invisibles. Select the HEAD option. Work with the HEAD option because it contains the META elements.

2. Click the INSERT KEYWORDS object. A dialog box will be displayed for you to enter in the keywords for your page.

3. Type whatever words will help search engines or spiders link your site.

4. Click OK

5. Click the INSERT DESCRIPTION button. A dialog box will appear in which you can enter the description of your web page.

6. Type a suitable description.

7. Click OK

8. press F10 to view the HTML in this document. See the META information inside the HEAD tag? Visitors wont be able to see it as its only in the HTML.

9. Save and leave this document open for whatever else you might want to do

Jack I got your mail thanks! I wasn't on line over the weekend.

I am still learning my Dreamweaver, the above was taken from a book I have by Linda Weinman, its "Hands on training" for Dreamweaver. Let me know if you still have problems, or maybe Mark fair knows what you are trying to do.

Jack,

In the WYSIWYG screen (the regular page editing screen, not the HTML editor) you will see a box that spans the width of the window, just above the actual page.
That little box is where you enter the head information for the page.. you might see some icons in there.. For example you should have an icon representing the Title for the page. Hold the mouse cursor over those icons and you will see the description pop up.

Click in that box, then go to the Menu <Insert> then META tag.

That box along the top of the editing window must be active in order for the META tags to be available to you.

If you cant find what I'm attempting to describe, I'll try again when I get home tonight. I'm relying solely upon memory so I might have menus mixed up. =) That happens when ya specialize in 200 different programs.. =)
