Rick..Based on it being a "long time customer" (meaning you have all the graphics already on your puter, and that there has been and will be repeat business from him) I would ball park that job at around $1500 Cdn. ($1000 U.S.) I am guessing the vinyl materials at about 50 yds of 24" vinyl.

Rick, As Dave said being a previous customer does save quite a bit of time but one thing I always try to do (but ya need to do it on the first job) is not just value your time and materials but also the advertising power this medium has. The exposure from a well designed vehicle graphic beats so many if not all forms of advertising at a local level for a first time customer not a repeat we would charge between $1,500 - $1,700 depending on how picky the client was through the design process, we would also let the client know that on future work of the same nature (another truck) he or she would save a couple of hundred because its already set up. So for a repeat on a similar vehicle we would be in the $1,200 to $1,400 range. Depending on the size of the fleet, and we were gauranteed the work, we would probably shave a little more off.

Rick, I just did a cargo van that is a little smaller and a little less vinyl (not much). When the two gentlemen came in, they only wanted a banner for a home show in a week. Then they decided to have their van done and had no design. They were hoping to have the banner and the van done for $750. They had thought that they should just have small print in vinyl on the van. I showed them the positive of going much bigger. I did up a design for both van and banner- van was $1000, the 3 x 8 banner was $200+. They got both the van and banner done and were happy.
I went to the home show to see it and to talk to them. The van was parked in the first parking space by the road where everyone could see. The customers had expressed that they want "Basement Waterproofing" real big and the name of their company much smaller. When I went in to talk with them, one of them said that a lady was driving by, saw their van and what they did, and had to go right into the show and find them.
It sure made me feel good that the customer was happy that my advice to go big would probably pay off. One customer could pay for the whole van and banner job.

My first gut reaction was $650.00 8-9 hours at $60 per hour =$480 to $540 the rest is for materials.
Installation time 4 to 5 hours hard push, no interruptions 3 hours to cut and apply application tape 1 hour to chat on the BB
We have a Sign-A-Ronga here doing this exact same work for $495.00

I did a similar truck recently with about the same amount of copy. I charged $866.39 for it. It took about 6 man-hours to do. I used 3M's 7725 series vinyl.
BTW, I never give a price using round numbers. Working it down to the penny seems to make the price more believable to the client and that I really took time to come up with an accurate price when I really spent about a minute using EstiMate.

$1100. I do panel vans for $550. My customers know that twice the size means twice the price. It makes sense to them. Any other way just wouldn't "add up".

i did one like this for $878.33.....i also agree with Glenn Taylor...never ever ever use round figures...seems like you just made them up and i find people are much more likely to try to dicker with you since it can sound like you just pulled a figure outta nowhere at the drop of a hat instead of carefully putting time into their request etc etc etc

In my area, I would be lucky to get 600.00 for it. Thats material times 1.5, plus, labor time at 30.00. I know this seems quite low in comparison, but I have landed only one job of this type in the last 6 months. I get beat on these bids consistantly. I live in the center of trucking commerce (interstates 44 and 71), so their is a lot of competition here for those types of signs. I cannot change that, so I have to concentrate on jobs that my competition, don't have the patience to do, like carving, gilding, more technical graphics, etc. I would love to have some things like this van to work on, but they just don't come my way. $200 for about 70' to 75' of vinyl (45' blue/30'red)
$50 for design and approval time.
$300 to apply with rivets and slatts.
$75 to cut/weed/tape.
$150 for advertisment value.
$775.00 plus tax
And like Jack said, I probably wouldn't get the job at that price. My vinyl supplier said 2 new shops just opened in the area.

Hi Rick...Sounds like the right price to me. And if you recall our discussion about pricing on chat a couple of weeks ago, it fits in with that old idea of mine 10 times vinyl cost. Obviously, that idea isn't foolproof and with the larger jobs it can become ridiculous. But at 10 times "vinyl" costs..your price works out works out pretty close. (remembering that your "material" cost includes premask)
Glad to see neither of us works for "minimum wage"!

Lately I've been giving customers the option of reflective vinyl, wherever practical. I quote about 50% more for the job. The material is 2-3 times the cost, the labor is a little more. The effectiveness of the vehicle advertizing is way more if its a company that has their trucks on the road at night. I'm figuring in more profit for the advertizing value.
