What has happened to me in the past is when I peal tranfer tape or mask some lift off occurs. I know about prepsol and I should order some, but right now the customer is watching the computer screen with me, and he needs them in a half an hour. Help. sunny

The only way we've repainted white metal blanks is by thorough scuffing with "Scotchbrite", available at auto parts/paints stores. Otherwise use a fine sandpaper. You have to break the surface or your new paint won't bond. hope this helps........ :^)

Sunny...Prepsol is a good idea but it won't help much with the bonding problem. Prepsol is a wax and silicone remover that is used to remove those impurities prior to spraying. I'd do as Pierre suggests, then blow/wipe off the sanding dust and then wipe with prepsol, following the directions on the can. Apply wet and wipe dry with a clean cloth. Follow up with a wipe with a tack rag to remove any lint left by the prepsol rags.

If you are roller coating them, usually enamel, then everything usually will adhere with just a laquer thinner wipe down, except black. I usually scotchbrite them to be safe, and use a little japan drier in my paint, if I need to use before 2 days Bill

After sanding, wipe with Presol or High Temp Reducer and wipe dry in one direction only, using clean surface of the cloth each time to pick up contaminants and not redeposit them. Solvents alone will not break the surface of either baked or powder coated surfaces. The polyester surfaces are the toughest for adhesion so thorough sanding or scotchbrite-ing is critical.
