I armed them with folded flat maps and book maps and xeroxed maps with highlighted routes and the addresses and phone numbers of their goal destinations ...and Steve shot outta here like a round in my ol' chrome Smith and Wesson 357. Was it something I said? (ha ha ha ha) No, they were in the Silver Bullet!
Although their visit here was brief it was packed full of quality. We sat around the table and talked for hours, then moved to the living room and talked for more hours, then moved back to the table.... and ya know- you don't really know someone until you get to talk to them. And I like them!!!
I have always liked them of course, I’m guilty of not agreeing with them on everything in the BB, but I didn’t understand a lot of stuff in that dept.
Talking with them (and others I've met here on the BB) I found out (again) that what it said here on the BB and what is actually meant are two different things. What you think someone means on the BB and what they actually mean are two different things ANNNNND not everything is actually “said” here on the BB… there’s a lot of stuff out there that we don’t know about and those unknown facts play a very important role in what is really going on as compared to what we think is going on…. Lose ya? I lose myself in this topic too, but bear with me here. What it all comes down to is there is two or even three sides to every story (with about a book the size of a dictionary full) with “details” to go with each situation. Those unspoken (un-typed) details are what gets “filled in” by the reader. They are “guesses” as to what’s really going on. I did that… and I do that, and I need to be slapped if I ever do it again!
Will I pop off at the mouth when someone says something stupid on the BB? Maybe, if I’m having an intolerative moment… (intolerative- I know that’s not a word, but on one of “those” days IT IS A WORD!!! ) Will I advertise or push a product blatantly (or even stealth-like) for FREE on the BB? Nope, haven’t in the past and I really won’t now… Will I stir the chit? Hmmmm? Naw, only in fun or jest… or if there’s a really good debate going on about something I know about.
I definitely have seen the Board change over the years. I started reading it in ’97 or ’98 and it brought me outta my shell (quite down there in the back! I know I can be a wise-butt, but I was really “shy” when I first found this place! Really!) At times this BB was my link to life, to people. I didn’t have to go outside to start “meeting people” and “making friends” I found them here! THEN… I went out and started meeting them- face to face. I have made friends with Letterheads across the country and to outer stretches of the WORLD. I know that if I where ever stranded in any town in any state I would have someone within a few miles to call for help or directions or sympathy and a laugh back into reality… why? Because of this site! I looked here in the beginning just for answers to the crisis of the week… Dad making a sign outta Melamine (or Mala-mutt ) or finding out information on paint… how to wash it off the drive-way and the street I live on and the route I took through town (Loved that story Dave and Si!) Then I got involved with the people… I meet them at “Mini-meets” that I thought where “real life sized meets” until I read about Mezzapa in Nettie’s first write up. I have spent time at fellow Lettervillians houses, played with their kids or their toys or their cats, shared some very personal stories with a few special people here… and now, after meeting Steve & Barb- I “really” feel like part of the family.
I’ve found home! Can’t pay the rent yet, but aren’t ALL kids like that their first real year outta the house? LOL
(If you’re reading between the lines, let me help you… I can’t pay for the subscription for the “online magazine” with the instant “help” section yet. Further explanation… Finally “fully” understanding the marketing strategy of web sites- when a prospective advertiser asks how many people am I reaching? Like the magazines- it’s the “paid subscriptions” that “count” in the business world NOT the “free” ones. My residence fee will support that “Fact” for the Shortreed’s and aid them in getting advertisers… not paying their bills. For my “dictionary size” e-mail worth of “details” on this matter please e-mail me for it if you have any questions or comments. Please don’t turn this post into another post-all war… excuse my pun. But if you’re in a good mood, it was funny wasn’t it? Post-all - Postal LOL)
So back to my family… some of you I’d like to slap on the back of the head! (noooo not seriously, but get me on one of “those days” and I just might! ) Seriously? I have never been so proud to be a part of something. I told Barb I strive to be as nice as Nettie, and I really do! I hope to one day be as smart as Lazy Edna! (I love her posts!) When I grow up I wanna be as tall as Samazon. I told Steve I hope to some day have the skill level of half the people on this BB the “other half” ain’t so smart and I gotta a masters degree in being stupid already- JUST kidding! About the degree. I’m killing myself! (Guess I’ll have to start over on trying to be like Nettie again, huh? )
I’d love to sit down at a table a share a brewski or a Pepsi (if I’m driving home) with ANY one of the posters here at this site and just listen to them. There is so much you don’t hear on these posts and so much more to say that we can’t type… because then your posts would look like mine- “a book!” Cisco could have kept me at Jackie’s ALL night with his stories… I woulda looked like a raccoon though, because he had me in tears of laughter and touched my heart at the same time! (and when I cry I LOOK like a raccoon.) Herb Martinez , the guy that lead me to this well of friends but never posts, keeps me entertained and mesmerized with his talent for lines and his gift for gab. (Not gossip- life stories! What an amazing life he has!) BroFrog inspires me to have fun and relax, "but make really cool signs!" I always feel welcome when I’m in the Pond. Ron & Kristi are always happy whenever I see them and I’m really looking forward to seeing them again this weekend with a “small crowd” (heh heh, yeah right! ) at the Chicken Barn and to get the chance to actually talk with them. Our resident “Snow Boy” Richard Bustamante up in the slopes of Squaw Valley is a dear person with a big heart and some good stories too! (I feel like one of those actresses that drones on and on about who she wants to thank for getting this plastic looking award, “but I don’t want to leave anyone out!”)
If you have made it this far down this post I’d like to give you an award!
What’s my point? I appreciate this site and ALL the individuals in it… even the ones that don’t like me or care what side of the Moon it is tonight.
But most of all, I am glad to have had the chance to host Steve & Barb at my house for one night and they are welcome back ANYtime!!! They are really neat people and have really started something special here with the BB. Nettie- you are a lucky lady to have Barb as a best friend!
I’d like to write more but…. Zzzzzz

I want to know when I get my reward? I read the whole thing. Geee Stef, thank you for that nice compliment, if I had known I could have kept you all night I would have told you more stories . but you have some good stories too. So did Steve, Barb, and Jackie too. In the morning we was at it again, I had to drag Steve out of bed though, those women can talllllllk.... and the funny thing about your post we were talking about that too, how sometimes people take certain things out of context, or how we (most of us) get up and the first thing we do is hook online to read the BB. like a regular newspaper. Lot of great info, from taxes, how to slap vinyl, which primer is better for certain applications, who won the award for best sign of the month, or just who's drop kicking who. I love it! Yes I totally agree with you it's my home too, and it was a great pleasure to have met you, i'm sure we will meet again. keep your great smile and stay glowing in the night sky.

Thanks for all the kind words Stef. Wish we could have spent more tome with you, Heath, Jackie and Katy. You have a wonderful family.
If any of you ever find yourself driving west on Hwy #50 out of Sacramento, I recommend you give Stef a call. A very special Letterhead that cooks a mean breakfast. Thanks for the memories Stef. Looking forward to seeing you this weekend at Ron & Kristi Percell's in Petaluma.

Stefenie..You wrote a very nice post! I agree with everything you said. Steve and Barb, and I am fortunate to live only 50 miles away from them, are caring, loving and wonderful folks. (specially Barb,,she is a BABE! )
As far as the "intended meanings" behind posts and the "percieved meanings"..you have it right!
To paraphrase a famous quote (I'm Canadian so please correct me if I am wrong) "You can fool SOME of the people ALL of the time and you can fool ALL of the people SOME of the time...BUT you can't fool ALL of the people ALL of the time"
My paraphrase would be..."You can post like a jerk SOME of the time and still ALL will think you are OK. You Can post like a jerk ALL the time and SOME will think you are OK. BUT you can't post like a jerk ALL of the time and have ALL of the people think you are not a jerk!"
I don't know if that makes any sense but it is how I feel.
In conclusion..Steve n Barb are GOOD people, and I cherish their friendship!
