What is an acceptable way to send a file to a Mac user, or to recieve one? I know that their are bridge software progs out there. I tried eps, but that sucked. I am always having to get a logo from a print shop using a damn Mac. I am very pleased that at least the sign industry chose for it's standards, the PC.

Jack. I know you use Corel 9 so when sending files to a mac, use AI format and make sure you put a check mark that text be sent as curves and also beside the fact that it is going to a mac. As far as importing, I have no problem importing AI files from a mac user. BUT to be on the safe side I ask that they save/export as ai 1.1 and I always export in that format.

I had to go back to the letterville archives for this one. It's a fairly detailed "essay" on cross platform file sending with some excellent post replies also. Cross platform is not as difficult as some folks would like to think. I have a pc at home, and a mac at the shop. When I do layouts at home, I export them as AI 1.1 to use on my mac. Put em on a floppy, pop it in my mac, and I am ready to cut, or to rework the layout in freehand.

OK, one more little cross platform tidbit before I get out and enjoy this great weather today...
For Mac people using adobe illustrator 8 or 9:
I have an alias icon on my desktop of illustrator. You can very easily open a .cdr (corel vector) file into illustrator by dragging the .cdr file icon onto the illustator program icon to open the file directly into adobe illustrator.
Usually, maybe always, if you try to just open a corel vector file from your menu finder function, your computer will give you a message "file format not found" or something similar. The above method, though, does work flawlessly.
If you ever try to open ANY file that plays that game with you (file format not found), try the "drag and drop onto your Illustrator icon" trick. 9 times outta 10 it will work for you.

I've use a file converter program that works well. It's a seperate module you can purchase at just about any software/computer sales store. It runs about 20 bucks. It sort of recreates the file into just about anything thats out there into a usable format for your sign program. Files such as ai, eps, tiff, plt, etc., and then some are all in this conversion program. It worked for me on a few jobs that sent me stuff on disk and is usually a file like tiff or something of the sort.

Don, Knows what he is talking about, Dave suggested you send out of corel as ai 1.1 and in mac format, I find it better to use pc format, if you are sending on the net the netscape or IE or what ever you use will automatically convert it to mac format when it is received. then as don says, they can rename it (without the pc extension is best when going to a mac) or add the pc extension when importing into a corel file. use interpreted ps (ai or eps)to import. I have done it many, many times. No extra program required. Bill

Jack, I've also had 100% success using ai 1.1 but if you need it, I have a utility called macopen that has helped me out in the past. Its a simple utility with 2 windows on its screen, one side for the file you have, one side for where you want to put the file. drag one to the other and specify one or two options and presto. Havent had to use it for a while but it never failed me in the past. David
