.......per sq. ft. for a 20'x10' bulletin board. #1 using four 5x10 .040 alum. panels per side #2 one color HP vinyl lettering #3 8 words or less #4 installation extra
or
$8.75 per sq. ft for two color lettering and/or outlines, shadows.
I will have to remove the old warped MDO, do some work on the frame, and install the panels. I suppose that should be done by the hour plus materials.
Thanks a whole heap

This is a method that may help you with your pricing (everyone is different...but this is what I do)
Add up all your supplies including hardware and gas for travelling. total amount x %40.00 = ? Figure out approx. how much time it will take you to do this, including cutting vinyl, weeding, masking, installing viny..etc. - Charge at least $50.00 per hour.
Figure out how long it will take you to install - Charge at least $75.00 per hour for working on location.
Add up all amounts and then double it for profit!
Work it out and see what you come up with. Maybe others can list their methods as well.

I forgot to mention, Rick, this is a permanent sign in front of a business. The old faces are MDO and are looking pretty warped and worn out.
I've never worked on a sign of this size before but should be able to do it. I'm just not sure what to charge for it. I haven't figured any other costs yet but the eight aluminum sheets alone will cost about $525. It will take an estimated 350sq.ft. of vinyl.
Normally, I might pass on a job like this but the owner is a plumbing contractor and we need about $2000 worth of plumbing work done on our house.

Thanks for the reply, Joe. The sq.ft.price of $7 to $8.75 is just for designing/lettering the 8 aluminum panels. Installation and removal of MDO not included.
What I was describing above, is that I would remove the old MDO, repair/replace/add new PT bracing and install the new panels at material cost plus labor.
I've never done any billboard work before. Is it customary to price the whole job at a sq.ft. rate?

for what your doin you can brake it out the way your doin....charge for the lettering and design work at $7-10 a sq ft ...then do a materials plus labor for the rest of it....but if you take a figure like $40 a sq. ft.x the 20'x10'...dont think youll be far off....this will cover material and labor...so 20x10=200s.f. x $40 = $8000....price out materials, then figure hours of work involved, and your not a young puppy so your gona need a set of extra hands on this job....so now you got 2 wages to be paid...at $20 s.f. it would be $4000.....so see which way you come more realisticly
