You did O.K. Man!!! It takes awhile to get a feel for any system. Read up on all the things to do, all the tutorials and just fool with it till yer brain hurts. I use Vinyl Express and flexi and Sign lab and Gerber Omega. I prefer the two first ones. The rest are all very clumsy.
