The pic posted here is a Photochop sketch done for a good friend of mine to show him what his Kenworth might look like flamed out. The concept has changed a bit... gonna go with more "traditional" flames... and originally it was all going to be vinyl.
I'll use 1/8" tape to outline the flames, mask and then use a foam roller to get the proper purple flames on quickly. After that... airbrush bevels and shadows...wrap it up with a primrose yellow slash stripe and then a second layer of flames neatly pinstriped in the same yellow to intertwine the purple.
The job is set to start Tuesday.... I have NO experience with urethanes and am doing the whole thing w/ One-Shot.... Never done anything this large all in paint.... and I'm looking for any tips or thoughts from you great experienced people. I'd also like to know what anyone might charge for something like this. And... how much time should I budget for it?? I just hope it turns out as good as it looks in my minds eye

John, that looks like 2 days time. $900 to $1000. The tape and mask will take the longest. The purple needs to be catilized. All the paint should be catilized. Let us know how long it takes you. We can all figure the materials. Post a picture when your done. have fun John

I've tried stuff like this in One Shot before and really think you'd be better off using a good automotive enamel paint if possible. (House of Kolor has some great purple colors.)
Also, it may seem like is a large area to cover, but if you do the purple areas in sections, your airbrush might make it possible to spray the flames for a smoother finish. A roller or foam brush will show streaks and flaws more easily when the highlight and shading airbrushing is done. It should take a day to do the flames alone and it can set overnight before you do the outlines. Again, an automotive paint will set quicker than OS.
If you really have to use it, OS will need to be clearcoated to prevent it from chipping on the front of the nose where it will take the most wear and tear.
Be sure to scuff the flames before applying the purple to get a better bite on the truck and wait at least a week before remasking the flames and clearing them with OS UV Clear to avoid risking it lifting the whole thing.
As for the pricing, I'd go at least $1200 on it....more if you bump up to the better quality paint materials.
