Corel 10 is a mistake. I never even got a clipart book with the extra cost of this one. My main concern is that I every time I import an .ai file I get cut lines everywhere. Does anyone have the same problem an is there a fix?
Thanks Ken

I cant help you with the clipart book (Although I have heard good things about a program called Romcat and there may well be a Corel equivalent built into the other utilities in the program) With your ai files, when you export try selecting ai version 1.1 as the type in the export dialogue box. I had similar troubles when taking ai files from my machine to be imported into a friends copy of signlab, it imported them but they were neatly chopped into segments mid-letter. Exporting them as v1.1 solved the problem. Good Luck, David

Ken...I am still using version 9 and have had that happen once in a while in it and previous versions. It doesn't happen all the time though, so I put it down to whichever version of Illustrator the original file was generated in. The other possibility is that the file was generated in some other program and exported as an AI and then you are trying to import a file that was perhaps not properly exported (as Dave Fisher suggests). I am assuming you, by cut lines, that you mean the image looks correct but there are horizontal or vertical lines that appear here and there through the image. If that is the case then what I have done is "weld" the various segments together and this gets rid of those lines in many cases. Another thing you might try is changing the file extension to EPS and importing the file as a Postscript interpreted file instead of AI.(that has worked for me on occasion also)
Regarding the lack of clipart manual, I find that RomCat is far more efficient at finding clipart than the manual is anyway. Give it a try. Free download from http://www.unleash.com/articles/romcat/

I have had that happen here as well, using CorelDraw 8 and AI 8 and it only happens when the file is originated in Illustrator and contains text. I've never had graphic elements get broken up like that. I just weld the pieces together as well, doesnt seem to cause a problem.
I dont know exactly why it happens like that, it could be related to the way illustrator draws the text. I can send artwork directly to my cutter from Illustrator and it comes out normal so I dont know what it is that makes it do that.

Ken..Here is another idea for using RomCat. Translab told me about it and it works great, If you remember to do it. As you save a file type in some "keywords" in the box provided in the "save" window. Then whne you back up your files to CD you can use RomCat to find your files easily too. For example I have about 20-30 files all relating to one company but a buch of the files have names that have no reference to the actual company name. I just make sure I type in the company name in the keywords box and then RomCat will find every file that relates to that particular company.

CD burner is on my wish list so I will remember your advice or I will bug you later for the latest revised idea I am sure you will have. How do these little programs like Romcat make any money? I am amazed at the value with not cost, whats up with it? Tell us old wise one!

The manuals for ver. 10 are barely enough to tell you how to install. There is a great utility on the program CD that has Canto Cumulus, a cataloging program that allows you to thumbnail images on the clipart CD and other image sources. Works better than the older RomCat. Anyone working in web design this little program is great for keeping track of images. You can click and drag them to your page or double click and they'll open in your designated image editor. The only thing I don't like about ver.10 is PhotoPaint is much slower, I have tried it on two computers, a PII-667 256Ram and an older P-266 128Ram and even after upgrading from WIN98SE to WinME it is still slower than 7 or 9. Some say it's faster but can't prove it by me.
