In some smelting operations, and other industrial operations, the incoming air that's to be used for burning is heated first. Makes more efficient burning. They run the incoming air pipes through the outgoing exhaust to heat it, Thus it's heated for "free".
Some folks around here use wood burning furnaces to heat their houses. It's different than a plain wood stove in that it heats a box in the next room, or basement, then air is blown through the box, which goes in the house, and heats it.
I know someone that's got a couple of old ones they're not using. I was thinking of building a cardbord box furnace, to be used for taking the chill off the house first thing in the morning. If air is blown into the cumbustion part, then the burning is more efficient, and pollution is much less.
So this morning it hit me: why not use the air coming from the electric clothes dryer to blow the combstion chamber??? Yo baby, hot stuff. I can get lots of smaller boxes easily.
As an intermediatte step, I can at least obtain a large filter of sorts (locomotive or combine?), then blow this hot dryer air through the filter and into the house. I've tried it without the filter, but the DUST!
